I am currently a full time student at UNLV. I'm a Junior working towards my Bachelor in Hospitality Management focusing on Restaurant Management and Culinary Arts (Pastry Arts). I graduated from a Community College in Oregon with my Associate Degree in General Studies.
I tutor Spanish and basic computer skills. Spanish is my first language and I believe that we all need to learn a second language.
I believe that everyone has the ability to learn and obtain knowledge through the ability of exercising our brains. We all can succeed by dedicating ourselves and never giving up. Learning can be difficult at times but we all have to fight the urge to give up and keep our heads up. After all not all things come easy, we have to learn to fully dedicate ourselves. We all need to have a positive mindset.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Get to know them a little, and have them warm up to me and me to them.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Try different ways to make the subject more appealing, such as coming up with games or some other engaging way to make the subject better for them.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would use flashcards and games - things that are engaging.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would find other ways to explain the concept to help them understand.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would suggest they read things they enjoy. Also, we could break down an essay or story by paragraphs or sections, and summarize each section. Highlight important words and ideas.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I adapt myself based on the needs of the student. I am open to helping students in any way that will be best for them.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I like using highlighters, note cards, and whiteboards.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Learn how to manage your time and be dedicated.
What is your teaching philosophy?
We all can learn if we are willing to put forth the time and the effort.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Encourage them to keep moving forward. There are some things that don't come easy.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
To listen to the student and support them and be positive.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
I evaluate a student's needs by listening to them and compromising.
