Certified Tutor
I am an enthusiastic, resourceful tutor. I graduated from Penn State University with my Bachelor's degree is Special Education and my Master's degree in Curriculum and instruction. I am certified in Special Education (K-12), as a Reading Specialist (K-12), PreK-4th grade education as well as Middle School English Language Arts. I love helping students get to that "light bulb" moment. I believe that it is important to get to know each student in order to motivate them to succeed. Providing students with examples that make sense to them and apply to their lives is so important and necessary for success. I've been passionate about helping students for as long as I can remember. I always wanted to play school with my younger brothers! I'm looking forward to working with your family!

What is your teaching philosophy?
I love working with students until they reach that "lightbulb" moment. I work to make learning applicable to real-life in order to create a student who genuinely loves to learn. The best thing about being a tutor is being able to work one on one with a student. Being able to cater exactly to the interests of the students makes learning and teaching so enjoyable for me. I'm looking forward to meeting you!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I help students become independent learners by implementing a gradual release of control in my lessons. By providing students with plenty of opportunities to master a skill, I set them up for success on their own.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
It is so important to get to know a student's interests in order to keep them motivated. Learning needs to be engaging, especially when a student has been struggling in a particular subject area.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I help students who are struggling with reading comprehension by analyzing where the struggle is coming from. Some students spend so much "brain power" on decoding the words that it becomes impossible to actually understand what they are reading. I provide those students with strategies to become better word decoders. I also have various strategies to teach students who need support with higher-level thinking.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Understanding who they are as a person is the most important. You have to set them up for success and instill in them a growth mindset. They need to understand that although it is difficult right now, they will succeed.
