Certified Tutor

I graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2014 with a BS in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Electrical Engineering. Since graduating, I have been working as a private tutor in New York City, where I primarily work with students preparing for the MCAT. I began tutoring over 8 years ago, and I've since taught a number of subjects across student ages ranging from middle school to post-graduate levels, mostly focusing on STEM subjects such as math, chemistry, physics, and engineering. I have discovered that teaching is a passion of mine, and plan on going into academic medicine in the future so I can incorporate this passion into my medical career. Besides tutoring, I enjoy reading, binge-watching shows on Netflix, and learning how to cook. I'm also a huge music nerd; I love finding new artists and I play the drums myself.

My teaching philosophy is heavily influenced by my engineering education. I rely on a Socratic, discussion-based method where I encourage my students to not only work through problems but to explain them back to me, to help build confidence in their own understanding of the material while cementing concepts in their minds. I also heavily emphasize developing intuition as opposed to rote memorization. If a student can learn the foundational ideas that underlie the sciences, they will be able to work their way through any future problems based in those foundations. I also apply this philosophy to test prep, but supplement exam studies with a strong focus on test strategy so that my students can "beat the test".
