Amy

Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and minor in mathematics. I've mastered mathematic levels up to advanced multivariable calculus along with probabilities and statistic courses since I plan to work in the field of biostatistics in the future.

I am currently tutoring at private school located in Edmonds, teaching different areas of mathematics. The subjects that I teach include algebra 1, 2, 3 and 4, geometry, and precalculus. Because I most frequently had interaction with algebra and geometry, I am more confident with these subjects. Therefore, these may be my favorite subjects to tutor students.

I mainly prefer to stick with textbooks when I tutor so students and I can have access to the material. Following the textbook works effectively when a student's goal is to raise their class grade. The textbook introduces approaches that teachers will likely use in class, and students should familiarize themselves with those in advance in order to be active in class. But, if this is not the case, I will pick independent materials which students will work on along with me. In both cases, I recommend students solve as many problems as possible, especially for mathematics, since the subject is challenging and requires the practice of proactive thinking.

In my spare time, I like to read and draw. But recently, as my new year's resolution, I've starting kickboxing and I am getting very interested in that workout.

Overall, I am a good listener. I like to help students find and resolve their main problems with the subject through interactive conversations and advise better strategies to improve not just their grades but also students' confidence level of the subject. I am a knowledgeable and patient tutor who can effectively help students with struggles. I introduce different approaches and methods which students will definitely find easy to use in order to absorb the concept of the subject.
