Thomas: Downey tutor
Certified Tutor
Originally from Paris and raised in a bilingual household, I came to the United States to study at Swarthmore College, where I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in History and Education. While my courses have generally concentrated on 20th-Century U.S. social movements, my senior thesis focused on critiques of the 1931 Paris Colonial Exposition.
I have worked as a French tutor at Swarthmore College, helping students of all levels understand problematic assignments and prepare for tests. Although I enjoy tutoring a variety of disciplines, my favorite subjects to work on are French, English, and History. As a tutor, I always try to establish a collaborative and friendly relationship with students. I aim to work with students by valuing their strengths and interests to develop a positive relationship with the subject.
Outside of academics, I love playing guitar and have played in several bands. I regularly go to concerts and have worked as the co-booking director of Swarthmore's student-run music venue. I also enjoy photography, traveling, and hiking.
