I graduated from Columbia University in 2009, with a degree in Cultural Anthropology. Because Anthropology is a grab-bag of different areas (psychology, philosophy, sociology, literary studies), I have a very wide-ranging passion for the humanities. I live to read, write, converse, and analyze. My passion for instruction goes back to 2007; when I was still in college, I volunteered to teach percussion at a parochial school in Harlem. This experience was so rewarding that it set me on the path of education forever. Since then, I've enjoyed helping students learn in a number of different environments: from teaching the GED to service-work union members in Center City, to serving an at-risk population with English support in North Philadelphia. For all of my nerdy interests, I've been told I'm a very laid-back character. I value kindness and open communication between pupil and tutor. I want you to help you learn, not to be your drill sergeant! That being said, I do have high expectations for my students, because you should hold yourself to high standards if you want to improve your skills. Outside of instruction/studies, I played basketball in high-school, although ultimately other interests took over and I never pursued hoops on the college level; however, I still enjoy playing several days a week. I'm also a musician/engineer playing in several bands at once and recording various artists in the Philadelphia area. In addition to being a musician, I'm a published poet and an avid reader of poetry. I hope we can work together to expand your knowledge and scholarly confidence!
