Certified Tutor
I graduated from Smith College in 2003 with a BA in Classical Studies. I started volunteering as a tutor in high school and college, and I have continued tutoring in a professional capacity since then. I have helped many types of students learn a wide variety of subjects. I want to help others succeed, and I like helping people to learn. I find the most joy in seeing a students eyes light up when what I have been teaching them clicks in their heads. I enjoy tutoring one-on-one since I have found that engaging a student directly in the learning process helps him/her to understand (and remember) the topic more fully, rather than letting them get by on just rote memorization that is forgotten once the test is over.
One of my favorite things to tutor is for the verbal part of the SAT and SSAT. I try to relieve the dread that some students have for learning all those vocabulary words by making the learning fun, hopefully giving them as much excitement about the English language that I already have.
