Hi! My name is Jenn and I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in May of 2011 with a Bachelor's of Science in biological sciences and a minor in chemistry. I did undergraduate research in a developmental biology lab, and studied abroad in Tanzania to do an independent research project on AIDS and Tuberculosis there. I am currently in the process of applying to graduate school to get my Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
During my time at Pitt, I was involved in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. We did various service projects including Adopt-A-Block, partnering with United Cerebral Palsy, and most importantly to me, tutoring in Pittsburgh Public Schools. I tutored middle school science in the classroom and had a really great time working with the students, getting to know them, and helping them to grasp new ideas and concepts. It was a joy to watch them learn and share the pride they exhibited in their newfound knowledge. One method I found to be particularly effective was to break complex concepts down into simpler parts and help the student to organize those parts in a way that made more sense to them. This helped them to see the big picture.
In my free time, I am training for a half-marathon, I play in a softball league in Philadelphia, I bike, read, and enjoy cooking.
I look forward to meeting with you and your student in the near future!
