I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am a New York State certified teacher. I recently graduated from Lehman College with a 4.0 and my Master's degree in Elementary Education. I received my Bachelor of Science from the City University of New York John Jay College of Criminal Justice, in Criminal Justice, magna cum laude. I minored in Science. I have experience instructing a wide range of students, from toddlers to high school seniors. I have over three and a half years of test prep tutoring experience. Nearly all of my students have seen a significant increase in their test scores and many have been accepted at their top choice colleges. My teaching philosophy is to help my students achieve their greatest potential. I know each student is an individual and they all have different abilities, learning styles, and interests. I incorporate different teaching styles and tailor my sessions to help all my students grasp the concepts we cover.

My passion is tutoring Mathematics. The best part of my work is when I see the material click and a student who "hated Math" suddenly becomes enthusiastic and able to teach me the material. I know I succeeded when my students reach their goals and are no longer struggling but excelling. I believe this quote from Thomas Carruthers perfectly sums up my view on tutoring, "A teacher is one who makes himself progressively unnecessary."

In my free time I enjoy reading the newspaper, scrapbooking, and being in nature. I love to travel and explore new places. I enjoy taking classes and learning new things. I also participate every year in the Yonkers Relay for Life in support of the American Cancer Society.
