I am extremely passionate about academics and learning; the value of each was inculcated into me at a very young age. I tutor a variety of subjects largely because I have so many areas of interests and have been privileged enough to pursue knowledge in those areas. I am a rising sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in International Relations and minoring in French and English. The studies of English and Literature have been my passion for a long time. I enjoy reading about cultures while familiarizing myself with the world’s diverse peoples. In my first year of University, I took three English courses and an intensive Writing Seminar which helped me develop my ability of analyzing, interpreting and explaining complex English texts while improving my written and oral communication skills.

The first time I took the SAT I actually wasn't satisfied with my score, so I spent 2 months working hard to get my score to where I wanted it to be. I'm communicating and working with a pupil that I get a proper indication of how to work best with them. It's crucial to understand every student is different. There are always indications on how to handle/work with each student. For example, with a hostile student I would try to ease off and allow them to talk whilst making the material seem personal and easygoing. With a more outgoing and confident student, I would invite them to be challenged in our studies, as they usually work best with a challenge.

I am from Tulsa, OK and came to Boston for college. I studied Biomedical Engineering at both Boston University during undergrad and Tufts University for my masters. After much thought, I deviated from a medical school track to pursue a career in the medical device industry. My love for math and science started around middle school, and I was strongly influenced by my teachers. Through tutoring, I hope to be a similar influence. I really enjoy working with students of all ages (elementary to grads!) In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, hiking, and volunteering at the Animal Rescue League in Boston.

I am most passionate about math though, because it can be related to any subject, and because the skills that are developed through mathematical thinking can help create success in other areas. I try to use multiple approaches while teaching, and present ideas as visually and tangibly as possible. One of the dangers of learning math is that students memorize the method for solving a problem but do not realize the underlying concepts. I do my best to ensure that students recognize the broader concepts. Because math builds on itself, it is also very important to look at past topics that relate to students’ current lessons. There is not always time for teachers do this in a classroom setting. Often you’ll find that a student’s struggles come from missing previous skills that are assumed as their lessons advance. My ultimate goal is to help students build their confidence with math and to set them up for success in their future studies, whether those studies are directly or indirectly related.

I am currently a lead preschool teacher. I received my Bachelor's in Psychology from VCU and am looking to return to school to further my education. While in college, I worked as a Supplemental Instruction leader, teaching general biology and anatomy. I have also worked in an after school program with elementary age children, but I have my fondest memories volunteering as a counselor for Camp Kesem. In my own experience, I loved school and now I love teaching even more at all age levels! I am a University of Michigan College of Pharmacy and will be graduating this April with my Doctor of Pharmacy degree. One of the reasons I chose to go into pharmacy school was so that I could make a difference in people???s lives, no matter how big or small. That is also why I have a passion for tutoring, something I have been doing since 2012. I absolutely love seeing a student???s face light up with understanding and seeing him/her improve as time goes by. I think the best way to tutor is to find the root of the issue whether it???s time management, difficulty in understanding the material, or difficulty in applying the material; and then using different strategies to really address that issue in a collaborative manner in order to really help the student improve. As someone currently in graduate school, I have seen my peers struggle with subjects and struggled myself. Through this and my past experiences tutoring, I have come up with many different strategies for learning and ways to address a student???s different learning style as well. During my spare time, I love trying new things, completing jigsaw puzzles (my current challenge is a 2000 piece puzzle!), learning how to sew and make my own clothes, and just being outside and exploring the area.

I'm an Economics major at Vassar College who has tutored peers and children for four years, and have learned as much from teaching as those I've taught. In my experience it is easiest for a student to learn when their teacher engages with them directly and adapts their way of teaching to the learning style and interests of the student. This has always been how I have learned most effectively as a student, and is how I attempt to instill knowledge as a teacher.

I am currently in a Physician Assistant program at University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth and am loving every minute of clinical practice! I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Philosophy from University of St Thomas. While an undergraduate student, I enjoyed leading fellow pre-health professional classmates as campus President of HOSA-Future Health Professionals. One of my most unforgettable health care experiences was a two-week medical missions trip which involved extensive teamwork for fundraising and bringing medical supplies to serve a remote and underserved village in Huancayo, Peru. I also received a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences from University of North Texas Health Science Center and am pursuing a career as a Physician Assistant. I am an incoming medical student at Albert Einstein College of Medicine who graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University.
