I am a soon to be graduate of University of Maryland. I am receiving a Bachelors in Computer Engineering. One thing I have noticed in my journey is that its important to have somewhere you can turn when you have questions.

My objective for becoming a teacher is to help students to learn and grow. I wish to establish a long-term career in dedicating my time and knowledge to helping students become successful members of society. It is my goal to work with students to establish confidence in them and abilities for them to use throughout their school career and further on in life.I have studied at Saint Vincent College since 2011. I graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology Education in 2015, a certification in Early Childhood Education (PreK-4) in 2016, and am currently finishing up my Masters of Science in Special Education (PreK-8) for graduation in August of 2017. I completed my student teaching at Southmoreland School District where I was introduced to Daily 5 and how to prepare students for PSSAs. I have worked one-on-one with students who have been diagnosed with Autism and other disabilities. I taught Emotional Support at a small, private school outside of Washington, Pennsylvania.I love working with children and have done so almost my entire life starting with teaching Sunday School at my church up until my recent graduation and beginning of my own teaching career as a substitute. I enjoy seeing students succeed and have fun while learning. My favorite subjects in school included Language Arts and Science. I work as a substitute teacher in three school districts near where I live.In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family and friends. I love to travel and experience new things. I believe that there are endless possibilities and new things to be discovered! I have a passion for reading books and horseback riding. I love animals, dogs and horses especially. I have two brothers, one older and one younger than me.I am married and have three Dachshund dogs, one boy and two girls. Their names are Charlie Brown, Noelle, and Chloe. I like to spend some of my free time playing with them. My world evolves around my family and friends and pursuing my dream of becoming a classroom teacher. I am a senior at Smith College majoring in Biology with a minor in African Studies. I’ve been tutoring students since I was in high school in biology, math, chemistry, study skills and organization. I was the Student Academic Adviser for my dorm my sophomore year, and I was a lab teaching assistant for an introductory Biology course. My strongest background is in biology, French, and building study skills. I’ve studied French for 7 years, including work as an Au Pair in France and Studying abroad in Madagascar. Because of my biology major, I also have a strong understanding of chemistry and math and a solid grasp on essay writing. Strong writing skills are essential, no matter what you study. My African studies minor as well as a love for history in high school has given me a firm grasp of both US history and European history. Of all these subjects, biology is my favorite to teach. I’m passionate about all the weird and wonderful things in Biology, especially microbiology, and I love to share this interest with others. I know math and science can be hard for people to grasp and I’ve come up with many tools to conceptualize the subject matter and piece it together. Biology is like a storybook of the world; you just need to learn its language.As a tutor I am creative, organized, and energetic. I recognize that every person studies differently and I always look for the best solution for each student. In my 5 years of teaching experience, I have taught English, Spanish and Math to a diverse range of students, including young children ranging from 3 to 12 years of age, high school students and adults, from the United States, Latin America and Asia. I have experience with one-on-one lessons (both online and in-person) and with groups in a classroom setting. Because of my diverse experience, I am accustomed to adapting my teaching based on the level, learning styles and personalities of my individual students. I am very patient and especially love working with shy students in helping them out of their shells. Since graduation from Rollins College, I have immersed myself in education while trying to gain as much experience in the field as possible. After graduating from Rollins, I interned at a facility that specialized in educating students with autism and individually working with each student to assist them in reaching their academic potential. From there, I began working as a paraprofessional at a charter school that also educates students with autism. I worked there for three years before I transferred to my current job as a middle school InD teacher. I really enjoy the job and actually began my job as a tutor as a result. A parent of one of my students asked if I could begin tutoring her over the summer to keep her on track for the upcoming school year. Before I knew it, I was tutoring her brother (3rd grade) and another one of my students. I really enjoy tutoring and working one-on-one with students to achieve their academic goals. I particularly like working with students in math, writing, grammar, reading, and phonics. In my experience, I have noticed that many students are lacking education in developing the basic skills that can help them in reading (identifying letter sounds/blending) and in math (looking for key words in word problems/using manipulatives to better understand adding/subtracting/multiplying). I am a firm believer in education, and I believe that it is absolutely necessary to have in order for them to reach their full potential and reach their goals!
