Since graduation, I have worked in the areas of Transportation, Environmental, and Structural Engineering. I have also tutored part time since 2006 upon moving back to Dallas, TX. Once again, my past experience with abuse and openness to share made me a trusting companion for my students to open up to and so I was able to break barriers and was able to help them academically as well as emotionally.Nothing happens by accident as far as I am concerned.I am woman with a life purpose driven by love, compassion, optimism, patience and determination. I learnt from my experiences that it takes more than smarts and desire to venture into any academic path. I have endured countless rejections, setbacks, disappointments but I have also met great pioneers and motivators who have urged me to push forward. I am also honored to report that I am trendsetter in my family; The first to earn a Bachelors degree and also the very first of my entire family to receive any graduate level education let alone a medical profession. Unwilling to pick between the humanities and the sciences, I studied both Anthropology and Sustainable Development at Columbia University. While teaching for the school district as a Special Education teacher I spent time in the resource room and the general education settings, main streaming special needs students from the resource room to the general education room. And in the general education classroom I would co-teach with the general education teacher. This model of teaching is very beneficial for all students and teachers in the classroom. I teach and tutor a broad range of subjects, however the subject I enjoy teaching the most is math. Mostly due to it being a subject that is not gray, you either got the answer correct or you did not and it helps to teach logic. Over the years while tutoring and teaching I would design and implement lesson plans for several tutored students ranging from ages 8 to 18 if not designed and implemented lesson plans for five high school resource/general classroom math classes. I also would organize, track and implement study materials for all my students daily. My teaching philosophy is to be thorough, versatile and try multiple techniques so to help students find their own learning style. Each student is unique in the way they learn and I feel I need to tailor teaching strategies and techniques to the students needs. I worked as a paraprofessional in a significant needs program at an elementary school, and have taught 7th and 8th grades at an online school.I value education, and believe in teaching students how to seek out the answers, rather than just providing the answers for them. Every person is capable of learning, and one of my favorite things as a teacher is seeing the light in a student's eyes when they have figured something out; and seeing their confidence grow when they realize they can do it!

My job as a tutor is to provide resources for my students and to guide them when they need help. I believe that the best kind of student is one who wants to improve as much as I want to help them.
