Hello! I've recently graduated from Middlebury College with a degree in Molecular Biology and I'll be starting medical school in summer, 2013. I'm spending my time in DC as an intern in the health policy and advocacy field and I'm looking forward to helping lots of students meet their academic goals! I have experience tutoring at all levels, from elementary school through college, and in a wide variety of subjects, from biology and math to reading and writing. I'm relaxed and fun but also efficient and organized. I believe that every student is unique and that I can work with each student to find what works best for them.

I started tutoring my second quarter in college (Winter quarter 2013) and I have been tutoring ever since. I knew I enjoyed tutoring the first time a student had a "light-bulb" moment where everything we had discussed and they were working on came together. Since starting to tutor I have had experience tutoring individuals as well as groups (10-15 people). The subjects that I currently tutor are algebra, calculus, and statistics. Of these subjects I enjoy statistics the most though, both tutoring and learning, because of how applicable to the world it is in almost every field.When tutoring I try to focus on how to learn. This means not only how to learn the material but which methods of learning work best for the individual student. As a result, the student will become a stronger, more independent learner. If a person learns how they learn, I believe, they can learn anything, which is invaluable when they dont have access to a tutor or a teacher.I have an Associates degree from Pierce College and a BS in Math from Central Washington University.

I love tutoring and teaching and I have a variety of hobbies. These include hiking/biking, sports cars, my pet dachshunds, and travel. I like collecting old automotive related toys and ephemera, primarily of European origin.I currently work as full time math and science teacher here in Duval County, Florida. I have Bachelor's Degrees in Chemistry and Mathematics from Jacksonville University. I'm currently looking into a master's program in instructional technology or in computer science starting next Spring. My favorite subjects to tutor are chemistry and anything to do with computing, often in the computing area I learn things along with the student which makes it even more interesting.

My name is Ashleigh Gorman and I am a Dual Degree Mathematics and Secondary Math Education major at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I strive to better all students in mathematics and preparing for life after high school. I hope to make a difference in every students' life and for them to feel more confident in the mathematics field.

I work at the University of Arizona, at Pima Community College, Tucson, AZ.I am an energetic and experienced tutor and mathematics lover who makes things look easy. I recently retired from 39 years of teaching nearly all subjects and levels of High School Math and Science (primarily Physics), along with some Theatre! During my time in the high school classroom, I taught Biology through AP, Chemistry, and Physics through AP 1 and AP C. I have also taught most subjects in high school Math, including Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and AP Calculus AB. My favorite subjects to teach and tutor are Physics at any level and Algebra 2 or Precalculus.I have a Master's Degree in Molecular Biology from Vanderbilt University, and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from Trinity College in Hartford, CT (my home state, though I have lived in Jacksonville, FL, for the past nearly 40 years). I have also taught as an adjunct professor at most of my local area's colleges and universities.My teaching and tutoring style center on student-based learning, allowing students to solve their own problems with "leading questions" and not providing a simple step-by-step solution. I am proud to say that, over the past 30-plus years, I have had many of my students go on to post-secondary education in Math, Physics, and Engineering.In my spare time, I enjoy theatre (directing and acting), singing, musical theatre, film, writing, reading, and travel. I have also taught Theatre and Musical Theatre, as well!

I am a recent college graduate with a degree in both Biomedical Engineering and Applied Mathematics. I worked for various departments as a tutor and Teacher's Assistant for mathematics and engineering courses starting in my sophomore year all the way through graduation. It was some of my most exciting times during my years there. For me, working with students is the most rewarding part, and I love seeing the moment a difficult concept clicks.When I tutor I adjust my teaching style to the student, and find various ways to relate the topics to real life. I'll often work with students to make sure they understand the basics or foundations of the concept or problem they are attempting and help them learn to think through and understand a process over pure memorization.

I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's in Biomedical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. While this coursework has given me an extensive background in engineering and the physical sciences, I enjoy English and Mathematics the most. I have always been passionate about writing, "debuting" countless short stories to my family (my favorite captive audience) growing up. Up until high school, however, I had a more complicated relationship with math. Rarely the kid to instantly grasp a mathematical concept from a textbook explanation, I learned how to approach each challenge from multiple angles. This mindset transformed my view of math, and I came to appreciate even the more advanced problems as the enticing critical thinking puzzles they really were. Most importantly, it made me enthusiastic about solving difficult problems, and I have applied this mentality to all of my tutoring experiences ever since. Working as a Kumon instructor for four years, I helped children aged 5-14 through math and reading worksheets. Since then, I have tutored for standardized tests (including the SAT and ACT), volunteered at math competitions, and worked as a counselor for an accelerated math and physics program held at my college.I believe that my job as a tutor is to push my student's understanding beyond the specific question at hand so that they feel comfortable doing similar exercises in the future. I know how it feels not to get something the first, second, or maybe even third time it is explained. However, rest assured that whether it is basic kinematics or MCAT Biochemistry, we will work together until we figure out what makes sense for you.
