I have been a tutor for four years with the past two years focusing on mathematics. I am about to obtain a degree in Applied Mathematics from University of North Carolina at Asheville. During my time there I have been working with students in precalculus, calculus I, and calculus II as a supplemental instructor. My favorite subject to tutor is precalculus due to the wide variety of topics and the focus on algebra rules as well as trigonometry. Regardless of my favorite math class, I enjoy tutoring and helping students with anything from precalculus to linear algebra.
As a tutor I aim to customize my approach to each individual student. Over time I will alter my methods to accommodate any particular learning styles. My undergraduate classes have provided me a broad understanding of mathematics and therefore many ways to approach a topic. If one method of explanation does not work, we can work together to find one that will. In a tutoring sessions this may look like explaining a topic through a combination of graphs, algebra, diagrams, and/or words. In every session my goal is to increase a student's confidence in the subject and if possible share my love of mathematics to encourage a positive connotation with math rather than stress or frustration.
