I have been a classroom teacher at the community college level for over twenty years. The subject I tutor most is math. I especially like technical math because it relates to engineering (i.e. the real world). I can also tutor logic and physics. I am passionate about helping students because it is rewarding and it is what I do best.
I believe that to learn something well enough to draw from this knowledge when it is needed, all relevant vocabulary and equations must be thoroughly understood. Formulas that are memorized without understanding where they come from are soon forgotten. I balance this tedium with jokes and funny faces to make my students laugh.
I have found that each individual's impediments to learning can be very different. I use compassion and dialogue to uncover the causes of anxiety or helplessness technical subjects can engender.
My bachelor's degree is from UCLA, where I studied math and physics. My Master's degree is from Arizona State University where I studied logic and philosophy. During the lockdown I became interested in machine learning and data sciences in general. I hope to earn a degree or certificate in a data related field.
