Elyssa Davis: Medford tutor

After completing an IB diploma in high school, I graduated from Kenyon College, where I studied Biology but spent equal time working as a theatre Stage Manager and Residential Advisor. From there, I moved into outdoor education along the Massachusetts coast, focused on youth programs in ecology, wildlife biology, and coastal environments. Inspired by the incredible experience I had connecting young people with the outdoors and mentoring youth volunteers, I completed a Masters of Environmental Studies with a concentration in Education at the University of Pennsylvania. I realized that strong connections in any discipline are built on a foundation of successful and engaging training and teaching, which has become my own method for connecting with the students I tutor.

While my background is officially biology and environmental science, my liberal arts education and varied career experience in education, operations, and outreach have made me a strong writer, and I am passionate about strengthening written work. With a brain for details and clear, organized logic, I am excited to support and guide students towards success in each unique goal. For some, this may be mastery, while for others, a growth mindset and more positive perspective at the challenges ahead are just as important. The time I've spent working with Girl Scouts and youth programs has refined this into my dedication to build a positive learning experience, with clear goals for each session, so that we can tackle the challenges as a team, with the student leading the way.

When not tutoring, I enjoy reading (I'm in a memoir phase currently), playing with my dog, Darwin, spending time with friends and family, and exploring D.C.
