My sense of humor follows the 80/20 rule: 80% of my jokes work about 20% of the time. When I teach a class, if I haven't made them laugh at least once then I've failed.
I know what it's like to suffer as a math student. Math was my hardest subject in high school and even made me cry sometimes. When I got to Calculus, though, everything came together and I came to see the beauty in mathematics. I continued this cycle of suffering followed by joyful understanding when I studied math in college and then grad school, and now that I'm finally out of academia, I can relax and share my experience with others.
When I engage in an hour of private tutoring I tend to go over-time by around fifteen minutes if I need to do so to wrap up whatever we were working on. Teaching is a passion, a calling, and a compulsion for me.
