Ellery: Waterloo tutor
Certified Tutor
Mechanical Engineering graduate student at the University of Louisville interested in teaching and developing STEM education. I am expecting to graduate at the end of Summer 2020. Afterward, I plan on starting my doctorate in mechanical engineering at RPI, but due uncertainty of being able to conduct in-person research I may delay this plan and resort to a temporary job of providing remote education.
I started off as a tutor in 2016 for the Engineering Fundamentals Department within the J.B. Speed College of Engineering at the University of Louisville. I served as what is called a Supplemental Instruction leader which is basically a TA position but I am more focused on providing 2-3 sessions a week where I essentially provide supplemental class times where I make and present my own content to any student in the class who needs extra help to succeed in their courses. I held this position for three years and provided assistance for engineering calculus I up to differential equations. My favorite class to tutor for was calculus III. I even have a youtube channel where I have posted almost every type of problem you could expect in that course.
I have only been an active Varsity Tutor since early February of 2020. I have tutored primarily math and physics, especially AP Physics 1. I can help in any math course from pre-algebra up to differential equations. I can provide assistance in some engineering courses, but due to the nature of the difference in education among universities, I try to only help in the entry-level course of mechanical engineering where I am more confident about the content.
