Certified Tutor

I am the current Spanish I instructor at a small private high school in Houston, Texas.

In terms of my background, I hold a bachelor's degree in Anthropology from the University of Houston, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from Rice University.

During college I began to travel extensively throughout the Spanish-speaking world. To date, I have studied abroad in Mexico and Peru; volunteered in Guatemala and the Dominican Republic; and worked as a museum intern in Spain. I sincerely hope my next trip will be to Honduras to meet the little girl I have been sponsoring through World Vision for the past several months.

People often ask me, "What made you want to learn Spanish?" I honestly can't explain it. I believe God planted the desire in my heart around age 14, and I have not stopped studying the language since. I'm passionate about helping students learn the language because I want them to see that once they get past the confusing and sometimes frustrating grammar principles, behind them lies a world rich in culture and full of possibilities.

I have tutored now for several years. During this time, I have worked with students as young as 4 and as "old" as 18. With smaller children I tend to take a more gamified approach, while with older children I tend to mirror the approaches of their primary instructors in order to ensure a seamless transition between home and classroom. I believe any student can learn anything -- it's simply a matter of meeting them where they're at and discovering how they learn best.

As a Spanish instructor, I tutor primarily Spanish (all levels). However, I am highly capable of assisting students with English/Language Arts (all levels), elementary math, and even ISEE prep.

Outside of academia, my interests include shopping, watching movies and spoiling my two dogs, Molly and Buddy.
