What is your teaching philosophy?

"Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new."

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In the first session, let's talk and find out your areas of difficulties and how to work through them.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Being patient, understanding, and creative in my way of teaching and seeing the positive side of the student at all times.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Be patient and give relevant examples that the student can relate to. Also, find a different approach to the problem and use other means of teaching.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Include content area reading. This content reading can be used by underlining key vocabulary used in a particular problem.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Building positive relationship with the students so that I can earn their trust, and that way they will be free to discuss with me their challenges.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

Use various forms of motivation, e.g. give easy examples, employ various methods and techniques of teaching, and boost student self-esteem.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

We do formative and summative assessments to help formulate new objectives and strategies for teaching and learning.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

Giving out positive comments that will encourage the student. The student needs constant evidence of progress.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I assess the student's needs by having a dialogue and carrying out diagnostic evaluation of the ability in regards to basic mathematical concepts. I also look at past academic records.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

Teaching aids, book, pen, and laptop.
