Certified Tutor

I am a recent graduate with both a B.S. and M.S. in engineering. I have had about four years of experience tutoring and teaching elementary through college level students in the math and sciences. During college, I was a teaching assistant, which was a very fun experience that inspired me to continue teaching and tutoring. I think it's important to work with students to develop problem solving strategies that are tailored to their unique ways of thinking. My background in engineering has taught me to approach problems from many angles in order to find the best solution.

I look forward to applying the skills I've learned throughout my education to helping students achieve greatness in theirs.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In the first session, I will always try to figure out a list of topics we need to cover for the class or test, which helps me plan out a schedule for tutoring for the amount of time that’s available to us. I also assess the student on the material by giving example problems and seeing how they do to figure out a good starting point.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I primarily tutor middle school and high school math and sciences as well as test prep. In these subjects, it’s important to help students develop problem solving strategies that best match the way they think, so I like approaching problems from many angles to find the right fit for them. This leads to a more efficient and individualized learning process. I also believe that building strong foundations in fundamental concepts is critical to mastering advanced concepts. Lastly, I think that using real world examples helps students achieve a more complete understanding of the meaning and applications of theoretical math and science in our lives.
