The student and I worked on two of his homework assignments, one covering parallelograms and the other covering many sided polynomials. Did a pretty good job.

He has a test over logarithms and exponentials tomorrow so we discussed his review sheet. It included all sorts of problems including solving for unknowns, finding domains and ranges, and simplification problems. I showed him how even though the techniques for each problem are different, they really only use a handful of properties of logarithms and exponents.

The student and I worked through various homework problems over long division of polynomials. We also worked through a serious of problems over addition, multiplication, and division of radicals.

The student had a great session today. We reviewed her homework on order of operations. We also reviewed mental math exercises assigned for homework. She began her studies in a new workbook, practicing order of operations and pre-algebra problems.

Today the student had a few homework packets to fill out. He did homework in math, social studies, and English/language arts. His math homework was not very difficult and he completed it with very minimal help. The social studies homework consisted of reviewing and writing vocabulary words and definitions. I asked him to write each word and definition 3 times and we read over them multiple times. Language arts homework consisted of a worksheet on pronouns and plurals. He did well with pronouns on his own but needed some help with plurals. He kept a good attitude during tutoring.

As this was our last session and the student's test was less than 48 hours away, we touched back on all the topics we had covered thus far. We started with, and spent the majority of time on, reading comprehension, as this seems to be her weakest area. She did better this time around, as I suggested to her that she start by narrowing down the answers which she knew to definitely be wrong. We then moved on to analogies and vocabulary, and I was impressed by the amount she had improved in just a few weeks. We finally finished with another creative essay prompt, first reviewing the rules for how to write a good essay. At the end, I met with her parents to discuss topics they could help her with tomorrow. I then talked with her to discuss the format of testing day, including when breaks will be offered and the rules about stopping when time is up.
