I am a current undergraduate student at North Carolina State University. I am currently working on my degree in Psychology with minors in both Criminology and Social Work. I have a passion for working with children and have plenty of experience in that field being the oldest of 4 siblings! I am currently a full-time instructor for Grand Canyon University in the College of Education. Prior to joining GCU, I taught high school and middle school English in three districts across the Phoenix area over an 18 year span. While teaching in high school, I had the opportunity to teach writing classes at night at University of Phoenix. I really enjoy helping students with writing. I have a simple way of breaking down the writing process into basic chunks that help students understand and apply these ideas. I've worked with student ranging in ages from 5 to 60 years old in my years of teaching.Personally, my life seems to revolve around sports. I have three teenage daughters who play school and club volleyball, and my wife coaches volleyball. I played football in college and coached at the college level before I began teaching high school. There, I was a varsity football and baseball coach for many, many years. I see a lot of connection between athletics and academics, and I work very hard to inspire all of my students to instill a little competitive spirit in them, so they will work hard to always be their best.

I graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College in 2020, and I obtained my Master's in Political Science from the University of Toronto in 2022.In 2016, I received an SAT score of 1550. That year, I also received a 5 on my AP exams in Calculus AB, English Language, U.S. History, and U.S. Government.I am happy to tutor students in mathematics, English, and social sciences (e.g., history, government). I especially enjoy tutoring pre-algebra and algebra.I believe in a practice-based approach in which I take students step-by-step through the concepts at hand. I first began tutoring at the University of Arizona Writing Center while earning my B.A. in Creative Writing and Spanish & Portuguese. This position not only gave me the opportunity to work closely with undergraduate students, but also to help high school students edit their personal statements in preparation for college.Upon graduation in 2008, I became a Teach for America corps member. Through the organization, I taught English for two years in the Isaac School District while earning my M.A. in Elementary Education at Arizona State University. During this time I adopted many of Teach for America's core beliefs: that all students should have the opportunity to receive an excellent education; that every student is capable of succeeding; and that family income should not determine a student's academic success.After my two-year commitment to the corps ended, I moved to Japan and taught English through Phoenix Sister Cities. During this time, I had the opportunity to work with students ranging from preschool to adult. I enjoyed traveling to many of Japan's beautiful cities and neighboring countries while learning about the language and culture.Although I have enjoyed my experience in the classroom immensely, I primarily enjoy working with students on a one-on-one basis. This gives me the opportunity to get to know them as individuals and really keep track of their progress. I view tutoring as more of an exchange than traditional teaching; I believe my students and I can work together to solve any problem. When assisting with a writing assignment, for example, it will only be a temporary solution for me to simply pull out a red pen and begin editing. Instead, I prefer to have a conversation with the student to explain the "why" and "how" behind the necessary revisions so that we can improve the piece together.When I am not tutoring, I enjoy traveling, gardening, watching movies, playing racquetball, and spending time with friends and family. As I live near ASU's Tempe campus, I enjoy finding fun things to do in the area such as attending shows at Gammage Auditorium, finding new restaurants to try, and relaxing at Tempe Town Lake.

I am a Creative Writing (English) major at Macalester College with a passion for writing, books, and hockey. I also have a minor in Classical Languages (Latin) and plan to attend law school after graduation. I am a captain on Macalester's club hockey team and enjoy being involved in the team and in helping players who are new to the sport learn to love it as I do. I hope to apply that same passion to helping students achieve their academic goals.

After a year of teaching, I have returned to my hometown of NYC with significant professional and life experience under my belt.
