There is no greater feeling than watching a student master an area or skill.

I am a current sophomore at Columbia University working towards a bachelors in Medicine, Literature and Society while on a pre-med track. The nature of my major is such that I am taking classes in and have experience with STEM (medicine), the humanities (literature) and social sciences (society). I have a good deal of experience teaching grades 4-9: before attending Columbia, I took a gap year, throughout which I assistant taught middle school math and science, focusing on basic genetics. I also teach through Columbia via an organization called Peer Health Exchange, which allows me to work with a group of 9th graders and to teach a comprehensive sexual health and wellness curricula. I myself had tutors throughout high school and even in some college classes, so I understand intimately how helpful a good tutor can be! In my spare time I like to read, sew, cook with my roommates, and play soccer on the Columbia Lawns.

I've always harbored dual passions for learning and teaching. Growing up in Kansas City, I participated in competitive math and spelling, going on to tutor middle school MathCounts and serve as my younger sibling's spelling bee coach. These experiences cemented my desire to serve as a mentor for others. With a background in higher-level math, I tutored the subject throughout high school while also serving as captain of the varsity tennis team and teaching private tennis lessons on the side. Top ACT and SAT scores earned me a scholarship at the University of Miami, where I was able to develop a newfound love for the fine arts. I am now pursuing a B.S. in computer science as well as a B.A. in studio art, with minors in mathematics and public health. I feel that my artistic practice has shaped my teaching, pushing me to take a creative, non-rigid approach to education -- I believe in working closely with my students to create individualized plans that cater to their specific learning needs.I specialize in tutoring middle/high school math (pre-algebra thru pre-calc) and test prep (SAT, ACT, and PSAT.) I am also comfortable tutoring middle/high school reading, essay writing, vocabulary, and computer science. In my free time, I paint, play tennis, and play synth in a band. I look forward to working with you!

I am a graduate of the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education at City College, an accelerated seven-year combined B.S./M.D. program. I completed my medical education at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. Since graduation, I have been doing research in cardiology and pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Health at SUNY Downstate.I graduated Summa Cum Laude as a Biomedical major at Brooklyn Technical High School, where I tutored fellow classmates for the SAT/ PSAT/ SSAT/ SHSAT, AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus, and AP US History exams. This is in addition to serving as Class President in the Student Government. The medical profession is a long journey with many tests along the way. The key to success as a student is to have a goal, stay structured, and find ways to make the learning fun and enjoyable. This approach has helped my former students improve their test scores and get real results.

I first began tutoring during college as a volunteer at an after school program for Durham public school students in 2nd and 3rd grades. I enjoyed the experience so much that I continued working with the students on their reading, math, and science skills for four years, following them up through the 6th grade.During college I also began working for the Duke Peer Tutoring program to tutor fellow students. I was a biology major and taking premed classes, so I tutored subjects such as organic chemistry, physics, general chemistry, and Spanish. I also volunteered with a student group that tutored adults in the Durham community that were learning English as a second language. Each of these tutoring experiences had unique challenges and provided valuable learning opportunities. I gained familiarity working with a wide age range of students, from elementary school age to adult, as well as a wide variety of different learning styles.Outside of tutoring, I am currently a 2nd year medical student at Johns Hopkins. In my free time, I love to run, hike, travel and cook.

I have recently recieved my bachelors degree in civil and environmental engineering. I will also be working on my master's degree in the next few months. I have always loved math and science since I was a child and I have also enjoyed helping other people to excel in the subjects that they have trouble with. I have been tutoring for three years in all age ranges. I have helped children age six all the way to adults in college with their academic needs. I do not have a preference because each age range has its benefits when it comes to teaching. Even though math and science are my favorite subjects, I still have a strong affinity for english and grammar subjects. I completed a summer study abroad program for two years during college where I studied spanish. I lived in Spain with a host mother who only spoke spanish and I was able to really practice speaking the language. I think that subjects have to be broken down and taught on an individualized level so that each person can have their own way of relating to the subject matter. This is why I take my time understanding areas of difficulty that my clients have so that I can individualize my tutoring style. In my spare time I enjoy skating, swimming, and jogging. I also like to write, edit, and direct films. I have a passion for filmmaking and I have been writing stories since I was a child. I am very interested in helping people to excel in their academic studies.

I am a sophomore at the University of Georgia working towards a degree in Finance B.B.A. During my time at UGA, I was accepted into the Terry College of Business and joined its Finance Society. A big part of who I am is service. I have continued my passion at UGA by joining ServeUGA, a community service organization dedicated to helping the Athens, GA community. Also, I became a part of UGA HEROs, an organization that raises money to improve the quality of lives of children affected or infected by HIV. My Prior tutoring experience was at Darlington boarding school, which had dorms that housed its boarding students. I assisted with study hall, where students devoted 2 hours of their time to their school work. They were allowed to come to me for help with their homework if they needed it. I was especially efficient in helping students in Math, English, and Spanish. While this was not technically a tutoring position, I still gained experience when it came to assisting my peers with their course work. Also, I was part of the Spanish club, and members had an opportunity to assist students from both our high school and our middle school with their Spanish classes during school hours. I would receive an email from a student, and we would work out a time to meet and work together. When it comes to tutoring, I try to get a sense of the learning style to best help the student. I also try to provide positive assurances to help motivate students and continue to learn. I enjoy watching sports, exercise, reading, and cooking.

I have over 100 hours of tutoring experience with middle school and high school students in a wide range of subjects, from Pre-Algebra to Calculus BC. I also have public school teaching experience in the form of volunteer work. I ran my own freelance tutoring business out of Miami, Florida. I also have experience having worked at an official tutoring company in Coral Gables, Florida from 2018-2019. I'm now an undergraduate at the University of Florida and I'm seeking a Bachelor's in Mathematics and a Doctorate in Pharmacy.Mathematics is my life's passion and I fully intend on making it my life's work. I have been studying it and practicing it on my own for years and I fully intend on continuing this journey in the hopes that I may educate myself through others in the process. It is too often the case that I see students who, be it through poor instruction at school or other externalities, feel unconfident in their own potential. I used to be one of these students. I went to a public school in Miami-Dade and it took me a lot of work and life challenges to discover and cultivate my natural talent. I want to share with my students my love for mathematics and show them that they're probably more capable than they ever before thought. My teaching philosophy is centered around helping my students build an intuition and intrinsic understanding in the subjects I teach. I would like my students to be able to know where their equations and formulas come from and understand not just how and when to use them but why to use them. Necessary motivations, strong conceptual backbones, and clear learning expectations are, in my opinion, they key to success in any mathematics curriculum. My style is flexible to whatever my students needs happen to be. I can explain things however you need me to and I'm well versed in a variety of education tools for illustrating mathematical ideas, such as Desmos and Python programming.I can tutor Statistics, Algebra, Calculus, and other high school level and early college level courses and below. I look forward to working with you in order to help you clear up your confusions and ace your courses!
