I have a firm grasp on all subjects regarding Mathematics up to college level Calculus 2. As far as English is concerned, since my degree is both a science and humanities degree, I have mastered how to write persuasively, informatively, and creatively. Critical thinking skills and good reading comprehension, I believe, is crucial to succeeding in any English class or pass any sort of exam in English as well. These skills have been grossly ingrained within me, because of all of my humanities courses including but not limited to persuasive anthropology classes, writing seminars and the like.

It is because of a few good teachers that I am where I am today. As a graduate student at the U of A, I have taught a number of different chemistry labs ranging from general chemistry to senior level physical chemistry. I put a lot of work into my teaching because I believe that a good teacher makes a huge difference in how people learn. I try to approach problems from many different angles because everyone learns and retains information a little differently.

I have tutored math up to Calculus AP; English writing, comprehension and college essay instruction; and test preparation for GRE, ACT, SAT as well as state-mandated tests in Illinois and Michigan. Finally, I majored in and am pursuing a Master's Degree in the field of social science. The Master's in Education program at Depaul is preparing me to teach students from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds at the secondary level..

I have tutored for many years and I have found that students may learn in different ways and all can excel at math. I like to present material in an engaging and relevant manner so that we can all learn and achieve success. One-on-one tutoring is an effective technique for explaining and modeling math and I enjoy seeing students attitudes toward school brighten when they see immediate progress in their work. .

I can help with school subjects such as English or Language Arts and Social Studies, History or Humanities. Teachers, parents and students have told me that I am extremely instructional, nurturing and gracious. I am very experienced at my work, respectful of the students and detail oriented. I also have a very good sense of humor which helps when working with students. .

My goal is to teach students the strategies, skills, and knowledge necessary to succeed while fostering their self-confidence and independence. I want to instill a love for learning in my students and to encourage lifelong learning. In my free time, I love going to live performances of local concerts, plays, musicals, comedy shows, etc. I also enjoy watching movies and watching Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears games, either live or on TV. I also enjoy hiking, spending time with my relatives and friends, and relaxing with a good book.

My ultimate goal with students is to make a connection with them and bring alive pre-algebra, phonics, the questioning mechanics of the SAT - whatever the student is learning. When a connection is made, we can bridge the gaps and make learning fun and lasting. Everyone can be a math person, everyone can love grammar, everyone can write a stellar paper. Every student is different, and every student can achieve success.

I am a Stanford graduate and a former NCAA D1 student athlete who understands the importance of time management skills in achieving great goals. I have 9 years of experience as a tutor and have seen much success with students of varying abilities. My game plan: 1)Build Confidence, 2)Improve Skills, 3)Raise Scores .

My extensive coursework in English and Creative Writing has given me a great deal of experience in workshop-based classes, and has made me a careful and skilled editor. I believe one of my greatest strengths is not only my own ability to write fluidly, but also to help others do the same while still respecting their individual voices. This skill, plus my experience with Picture the Future, a Campus Y-run after school program for at-risk youth where I volunteered as an instructor for several years in Photography and Creative Writing, make me not only an excellent writing coach, but also a great tutor in SAT Verbal prep, literature, reading, grammar – if it involves words, I’ve got it covered! I also devoted a good portion of time at WashU to foreign language study and to developing an appreciation of global culture. I have studied Spanish, French, and Russian, and have traveled on my own to over fifteen nations, including most of western Europe, Brazil, Russia, Turkey, and Egypt.
