Chemistry Tutors

My favorite subjects are history, the sciences and English. I actually did not like math for quite some time as a child but I have learned to love it and I would like to help any of my clients LOVE the subject I tutor them in. I enjoying singing and have done so since I was in 3rd grade. I also enjoy dancing - specifically ballet and lyrical. I love reading and have an extensive collection of books that I cherish.

I have a firm grasp on all subjects regarding Mathematics up to college level Calculus 2. As far as English is concerned, since my degree is both a science and humanities degree, I have mastered how to write persuasively, informatively, and creatively. Critical thinking skills and good reading comprehension, I believe, is crucial to succeeding in any English class or pass any sort of exam in English as well. These skills have been grossly ingrained within me, because of all of my humanities courses including but not limited to persuasive anthropology classes, writing seminars and the like.

I like to take away the serious and abstract nature of the material, and make it relevant to your personal interests. This has worked very well - some of my students even made me cookies*! I strongly believe that anyone can be good at math and science, and during my time as a tutor, I have proved myself right on several occasions. In my free time, I enjoy listening to music, irritating my girlfriend with my guitar playing, reading just about anything, and practising some sweet Taekwondo moves. *Payment of cookies is not necessary or expected.

When it comes to the sciences, there are always many ways in which to conceptualize a problem. I enjoy looking at problems from different directions to help others understand and learn the information better. My tutoring style is flexible, and I think the most important aspect of tutoring is helping the student find his or her own way to best conceptualize the material. I believe the best way to succeed is to become motivated by learning, not just by the end goal.

In the past, he's privately tutored chemistry, taught Sunday school for second and third graders, and coached younger students in music as the trombone section leader at his high school. In the summer of 2011, he ran his own ACT tutoring business, raising student scores an average of four composite points. Now, when he's not tutoring, he enjoys playing jazz piano and going to the zoo with his friends..

I believe that I am a great tutor because I have a simplistic approach to many things. In other words, I try and make things as simple as possible first so that my students can understand the fundamentals first and then move on to more complex things. I also use analogies to help students understand concepts. As an example, I was tutoring a student in biochemistry on enzyme kinetics and I compared it to cars, something I knew he understood very well, and he instantly understood the concepts better.

I deal with a wide spectrum of students who learn new material in a variety of different ways. As a teacher who observes students struggle with difficult concepts, I have been able to adapt my teaching/tutoring to really fit the needs of the student. I am confident that I can help any child achieve mastery of a difficult concept, if given the chance to work one on one with that student. When I am not teaching or working, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

After school, I have many students visiting me in my classroom for one-on-one help. The majority of those students I don't even teach. They come to me because I am open and helpful to them. In my free time I enjoy making quilts, birdwatching, and genealogy. I love traveling everywhere (local or abroad).

I currently assist students in Liberal Arts Studies through the Writing Center at the Juilliard School, and I continue to teach lessons in music. My enthusiasm for working with students continues to grow as I meet more capable, intelligent young people who often just need insight into how to tackle the mass of material they receive in the classroom. My background is as a classically trained singer, and I know first-hand the value of seeking the best help to improve one’s skills. I moved to New York City to continue my own development as a performer at the highest level, and I appreciate the will to aspire that this city instills.

Ever since I have been tutoring Math, Chemistry and standardized tests. Tutoring is a pleasure to me, I particularly enjoy helping students reach that 'aha' moment, where they gain an insight into a particular concept. As of January 2012 I have tutored more than 20 students for a total of nearly 500 hours. In the future I will be attending graduate school in Chemistry, and will later continue as an educator, hopefully on the university level..
