My life's mission statement is to build, lift, and inspire other people! I am currently working on obtaining an English Teaching degree to better be able to accomplish that mission. I want to get a job as a high school English teacher after graduating from BYU. I have had several long-term opportunities to tutor, both unpaid and professionally and I recently received my Level 1 Tutoring certificate from the College Reading and Learning Association.

Learning and teaching are two of my favorite things to do! For as long as I can remember I have loved learning new things. It is my goal as a tutor to help light that same fire in my students. I truly believe that everyone can learn anything, and I promise to do everything I can to help you achieve your academic goals.

Throughout high school and college, I always loved teaching and helping other students. I have been an ACT tutor as well as a math tutor to multiple students and worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Computer Science department at BYU for 4 years. I recently graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering from BYU and am currently working as a Software Engineer in addition to being a tutor.

I graduated from Lamar High School in Houston. I am currently attending BYU for college, with an emphasis in international business. I enjoy tutoring Spanish, as I lived in Argentina for two years. I also am willing to tutor in just about any other subject, particularly ACT and IB test prep. I enjoy playing basketball and talking about sports, as well as music. My goal is to teach to where the student understands enough to teach somebody else the material.

I have always loved helping others, and I've found that I do my best work in a one-on-one environment, like tutoring. I graduated from BYU with a bachelor's degree in communication disorders, and I will be working as a speech-language technician for Nebo School District, starting in the fall. I lived in the Dominican Republic as a church volunteer, and I am fluent in Spanish.I understand that students retain best what they do themselves. For this reason, my tutoring philosophy is to allow the student to go as far as he or she can alone and then give the tools necessary to figure the rest out together. This process continues until the student feels confident doing the work alone.

Through 10 years of teaching at three different colleges, I know that great learning comes through individual advising sessions and conversations that allow students to address their concerns, develop their skills, and work on their goals.

I am currently a business student in the Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University studying Global Supply Chain Management and working on Japanese certification. I am an enthusiastic, self-motivated, leadership and organizational minded employee and student.

How do you teach someone how to learn, how to think, and how to express their ideas? First, you teach them how to read, how to write, and then how to speak publicly. I have two master's degrees: one in Communications and one in Special Education- Applied Behavior Analysis. I have taught university classes in public speaking and communications for many years. I have also established an elementary school with a classical education emphasis. I believe that the skill of reading opens the world of learning and the skill of writing and presenting your thoughts develops your critical thinking skills and develops your talents of discovery.

With a passion for learning, I have 4 years experience of Advanced Placement tests and tutoring, and 8 years experience general tutoring of all ages. I particularly enjoy English, History, and Science.I have six years of bilingual instruction experience, from preschool age to adults. I love tutoring English as a Second Language and Spanish language. I am currently completing my TESOL certification.As a tutor, I really work to understand each student's learning style and tailor instruction to their needs. I am currently a student at Brigham Young University studying Applied Physics. After finishing my degree I am planning on pursuing a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. Since January 2014 I have worked in the physics help lab at BYU. Throughout this time I have greatly enjoyed helping many students increase their understanding of physics. I love seeing my students have a "light-bulb" moment where suddenly everything we discussed makes sense to them. I think it is extremely important for everyone to have (at least) a basic understanding of math and science as this helps us to better understand our world. I am greatly motivated to teach in a way that my students understand the fundamental principles and not in a way that they can merely get the right answer. I love trying to pass on my enthusiasm for math and science to my students, and I am always looking for ways to show how cool and fun mastering these subjects can be. Although I am most passionate about physics, I also tutor math and Spanish. When I'm not studying or teaching I enjoy swimming, reading (especially Michael Crichton and Orson Scott Card), and exchanging movie quotes with my roommates.

I'm a certified teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching all ages. I have a degree in Elementary Education from BYU. I'm passionate about fostering a love of learning in others. Every student can develop a growth mindset and that will be the foundation for their future success. My husband and I have 5 children ages 16-27. Each of them have had their unique struggles with learning. Over the years, my experience with helping them overcome learning differences, ADHD, high-functioning autism, sensory disorders, etc. has helped me be a more skilled teacher and tutor. I understand the struggles of the student who has to spend inordinate amounts of time studying when others whip through their assignments with ease. Every student has a different learning style. Some need visual and auditory experiences to learn. Others need to move and do. I'm proficient in cool online tools that allow me to get the student involved with math manipulatives and interactive annotations.

I graduated with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a minor in Teaching English as a Secondary Language. I'm a licensed elementary school teacher certified in grades K-6. I taught 4th and 3rd grade, but have spent time in many other grades. My goal is to create a safe and positive learning environment where students not only grow but thrive. There is no better feeling than knowing you've had a small part in shaping a child's future.

I have twenty years experience in education. My qualifications are as follows: I graduated BYU with a bachelor's in Social Studies Teaching and a minor in Spanish Teaching. I later graduated with a second bachelor's degree in Anthropology. Recently I graduated with a master's in Instructional Design. I have taught high school Spanish and adult ESL. I have also substituted. Currently, I teach an adult ESL class at night. I enjoy the act of teaching, and am passionate about the subjects that I have taught. I am someone who loves to teach and has been doing that as a pharmacist for the past few years. I have most recently been a volunteer tutor in middle school and high school, but I have also tutored elementary-age children as well. I love helping people, children and adults, read and write more effectively. Reading and writing are important ways we communicate with one another. I believe anyone can learn anything. I tutor Spanish at all levels. I studied Spanish and Portuguese at Brigham Young University. I have a BA in Spanish with a Portuguese minor. My Spanish evaluation upon graduation was "advanced high." This is one level below native. I do not have an foreign accent in Spanish or Portuguese (Brazilian). I taught at a language learning center working with 19 to 21 year olds. I have also taught Spanish as a long term substitute. I lived in the Dominican Republic for 2 years over two separate occasions. I have over 20 experience speaking Spanish. When teaching, I focus on helping students understand concepts that can be difficult grasp (i.e. subjunctive, pretreat vs. imperfect). The language is much easier to grasp when the student understands the "why" of a concept.I also studied law at Washburn University School of Law. I am a licensed attorney. Teaching Spanish is something that I really enjoy because I understand the process and it is rewarding to help people get over the conceptual humps along the way to fluency.

Hi, my name's Jeff. I'm 34 years old and I live in the United States of America. I received a bachelor's of science in biochemistry from Brigham Young University. With the hard sciences, you have to take a methodical and meticulous approach to learning. I believe this applies to teaching as well. I used this methodology when I taught English for two years in the Ukraine. I worked with multiple small groups, each with their own leader who I had chosen for their skill. They would perform their exercises while I would monitor their progress. We would also have a discussion afterward about topics that concerned or interested them. When I have time to myself, I enjoy keeping both my body and mind sharp. To achieve this, I like learning other languages as well as practicing gymnastics. I am also interested in reading scientific articles because I want to keep up with current developments in my field.

My primary goal is to help students become independent, comfortable, and confident in the fields they are studying. I love helping people get to the "aha" moment when they really understand what's being taught. In my experience, one of the most important parts of tutoring is setting clear expectations at the beginning and working toward a common goal. Given the right goals and assistance, I truly believe that anyone can master any of the subjects I teach.

I am a BYU student, an am currently working toward a bachelor's degree in Chemistry. As a student, I have found that I respect teachers more when they can understand the questions posed by my fellow students. I think that it is important to find out what a student knows before trying to teach a new concept. That way any misconceptions can be cleared up at the beginning, instead of fighting against them for weeks or even longer. I have taken classes in Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, and Writing, and believe that understanding students is one of my strengths.

I began tutoring some of my classmates when I was a sophomore in high school. As the years went on I helped more and more people especially in science and math subjects. Back then I really enjoyed it because I was able to help them out while it also helped me study at the same time. As a graduate of Brigham Young University, Provo, I began teaching high school English and theater. During my time as a teacher, I was awarded grants to create and implement a district-wide English program for accelerated and at-risk students. Since that time, I have published three books, "Awakenings," which is a science fiction novel, "Hope in All Things," a short story anthology, and "Journaling For Tweens," a self-help book for kids eleven to fourteen about attaining success through journaling. Since the pandemic began, I started online tutoring and reviewing essays for college students (academic papers, college entrance essays, and practice essays for achievement tests). In the past I've worked as a technical writer and editor as well. Sharing my writing and English skills brings me great joy. For many years now, I've conducted countless writing group sessions in the west Houston area. When I'm not writing, I like to read, swim, spend time with my family, serve at my church, sing, and do late-night runs with my husband to DQ.

Every student has the ability to learn, to overcome challenges, and to get excited over new discoveries. I developed a passion for teaching while I was living in Brazil where my friend and I had a blast teaching our students English while they made fun of our Portuguese (only at first... we got better). I come from a family of educators. My mom, my aunts, my uncle, and my grandparents teach every age group from pre-K to graduate school, so the pursuit of knowledge was always encouraged at my house. I was fortunate to be able to pursue a higher education and graduated from BYU with a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science. When I lived in Taiwan I had to teach English to students and the thought that kept occurring to me is that: English is way harder than Mandarin!I mean sure ,they have tones and characters. but their grammar NEVER CHANGES (Sooooo nice) In Mandarin there is no "i before e exept after c" nonsense. That's one of the many beauties of the Chinese language it's much more direct than English. You're probably thinking . yeahh....but tones and characters is why mandarin is hard. What if I told you there are little hacks that make learning the material way easier. If we work together I will for sure let you know about them! So much easier than rote memorization! But what if school isn't your thing? That you are a slow learner?Here's the great part, That's what I thought about myself!s I barely graduated high school and now I'm studying to be a Professor of Asian languages at the hardest school in my home state ( a school that happens to have one of the top language programs in the United States.) One of my greatest passions in life involves teaching English and Spanish. I have dedicated my education and profession to becoming an expert in these languages and in teaching them. I received a bachelors degree from Brigham Young University where I double majored in Secondary Education (emphasis in English Language Arts) and in Spanish Studies. While studying at the university, I taught Spanish online as part of the universitys independent study program. After graduation, I taught seventh grade English for one year. I absolutely loved teaching, but left to be able to move to Chicago with my husband. Now, as my husband is attending the University of Chicago Law School, I hope to reach as many students as possible through tutoring.I believe that every student is unique and therefore deserves individual instruction. If I see that a lesson is not helping a student succeed, I immediately adapt that lesson. I am willing to put in all the work that is necessary for the benefit of the student. That being said, I also believe that a student has a responsibility to put in their best effort as well.Although I do love teaching English and Spanish, there are many other things I love to do. I have always had a passion for helping other people. I discovered that education was one area where I could do this when I was in high school. My interest and love for Spanish began as a child when I went to my Puerto Rican grandma's house. There was a rich Hispanic culture throughout her home and how she lived. I never understood the Spanish she spoke, but I loved hearing it and have very fond memories of it from my childhood. Fast forward to me at 19-years-old, I chose to serve a 2-year full-time volunteer mission for my church. I had no choice in where they would send me, so I was very grateful when they assigned me to serve in Chile. Those 2 years in Chile gave me an immense love for the Spanish language and a desire to continue using it for the rest of my life.As I returned from my 2-year mission, I decided to apply for a Minor Degree in Spanish at Brigham Young University. There, I qualified to take an advanced-level Spanish-speaking test to waive 16 credits worth of Spanish courses and accelerate my formal Spanish education. I passed the test with an A and continued the rest of my collegiate study taking advanced level Spanish courses. While in the first two years of my college, I also worked as a Spanish teacher in a Training Center that taught young missionaries who were just starting their 2-year service missions for my church. That job engulfed me in the Spanish language daily and encouraged me to improve my Spanish-speaking abilities.Today, I continue to speak the Spanish language frequently after having learned it 8 years ago. I hold a Spanish Minor from Brigham Young University, and I want to continue sharing the benefits of learning the Spanish language with others around me. I have been a professional Civil Engineer for about 20 years. I chose engineering for a career because I enjoy math and science and solving problems. Math was hard for me when I was young, so I think I have an ability to empathize with students who struggle and to find a way to explain concepts so each individual can understand. I love seeing the light come on in a student's eyes when they finally understand a concept they've struggled with.I have lots of tutoring experience, beginning with working as a teaching assistant for several semesters in college. I also spent a year working in a free inner-city tutoring lab. I have taught professional development courses as part of my engineering job and I have taught three semesters at Drexel University as an adjunct professor.I use math and science every day at work, so I can help students with most STEM classes. I also have to write a lot as part of my job and have a reputation as a good editor of reports and papers. I am also fluent in Spanish, having lived in a Spanish-speaking country and having close family members whose first language is Spanish. I am from Nashville, Tennessee but have lived in seven different states all over the U.S. I currently attend Brigham Young University and am loving it. I am a geologist and environmental scientist with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Geology from Brigham Young University (BYU). I learned to communicate with many people and perfect my Spanish one step at a time.I had to learn one step at a time and that is my tutoring philosophy. I know that a new language can not be learned overnight. Just like Math or Science it is a learning process that takes time and patience. I work with student to improve, grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, conversation, and whatever they stand in need of. I know how it is to struggle at learning a subject, and I also have experienced the satisfaction parents and students feel as understanding increases.

I recently graduated from Brigham Young University, with a bachelor's degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics. I live in Arizona, but have spent a year each in France and Belgium doing informal small-group teaching, during which time I learned to speak French fluently. In high school I taught myself programming, learning over time by working on my own fun ideas. This self-directed, project-oriented approach adds an invaluable measure of fun to the learning process, even when done alongside school projects, and is how I recommend my students find their own motivation, and even love, for programming. Programming to me is a fascinating mix of puzzle-solving and creativity, and I believe it should be done for fun as well as for work.
