Tutoring review by Max in Snellville, GA
For today's session, the student and I worked on two separate algebra assignments concerning probability. The first review utilized factorials in order to calculate the total number of combinations or permutations with a given sized set and number of selections. While he was quick to utilize the functions on his calculator to solve the problems, I made sure he also understood the formula and how to use the properties of factorials to solve them on paper. That assignment went pretty quick, and we moved on to the second concerning probability of independent and dependent events. I was able to use two of the assigned word problems as contrasting examples of independent vs dependent probability, and he had a flash of understanding. This assignment also went pretty quick. With our remaining time, we focused on a physics review. The problems there were kinematics of linear and angular motion. After showing him the angular equivalents to the linear equations of motion, he had a much better grasp on how to translate his skills into situations of angular motion.

Tutoring review by Maggie in Snellville, GA
The student has an exam tomorrow on right triangles and trigonometry. So, I gave him a practice exam and we reviewed any mistakes he made. He knows the content but sometimes makes small errors. Whenever I ask him to go over his work again, most of the time he ends up finding his mistakes on his own. I reminded him to go over all work during tests in order to find any mistakes he might have made. He also has a particularly hard time setting up proportions when using right similar triangles, so I reviewed that with him.

Tutoring review by Chad in Snellville, GA
During our discussions last session, the student distinctly remembered having trouble with "algebra in fractions." So, in preparation for this session, I compiled practice problems dealing with the division of polynomials. At the start of this session, I showed him an example of this type of problem. We practiced division of polynomials until he displayed mastery. I felt it advantageous to hone in on this form of algebra as a means to help ease some of his anxiety and to help enhance his confidence in the tutoring process and my abilities to lead him towards success. I also helped him grasp and master the processes of solving systems of equations. Our next session is scheduled for Monday.

Tutoring review by Tashnin in Snellville, GA
The concepts that we covered were mostly related to data analysis. The student was initially struggling to do a histogram and a box-and-whisker plot. The student's attitude was receptive. The student was left with additional practice. The student has shown me his grades. The wins are that the student is gradually improving his math skills.
