I graduated from Queens College with a degree in Sociology. I am currently in the process of applying to graduate programs to pursue my own dreams of an MBA. I have been a teacher/tutor for SAT, ACT, TOEFL, IELTS, GMAT, AP US History, and various other subjects for over four years. My favorite subject to teach is AP US History because I have the ability to make the stories of our past fun and interesting. I constantly update my teaching materials and methodology with each passing year to help my students. I enjoy teaching and seeing my students learn new things. When my students are able to earn better scores the moment is very rewarding to me. If there is a problem that you do not understand, I will help you understand it fully. Outside of academic I have a passion for sports, running, and music.

I'm a proud graduate of Temple University - Go Owls! - with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Economics. Having tutored GED students and led literacy circles, I've seen firsthand the value of education and reading. I love to read, everything from social commentary to dramatic novels, and I hope students I work with develop a lifelong love of literature. When not working or reading, I enjoy spending time with my pup, working on crossword puzzles, and seeking out the best cup of coffee.

I am a graduate from UC Irvine, and grew up in Southern California. I began tutoring students in high school for science and math and picked up private tutoring for calculus and physics in college. I graduated UC Irvine as a biology major and a psychology minor. I enjoy private tutoring because it gives me an opportunity to alter my teaching habits and see which style best fits the student's learning ability. I enjoy teaching math and sciences because I see them as a puzzle and a challenge for the students at first but can become a favorable subject once the material is understood.

There is an age old saying about brilliant teachers, “He who is awesome can teach others to be awesome as well!” OK, so I made that one up, but…I know this is the truth, because I had a teacher who did just that. Truly great teachers are approachable, enthusiastic, and most importantly patient. And not only do I possess these traits, but would like to expound these qualities onto other students.During my college experience, I had one such professor that really stood out in his abilities. While he appeared more like someone’s congenial grandfather with his sweater vest and deep belly laugh; Dr. Edgar had vast knowledge of organic chemistry and taught with such patience and enthusiasm for the subject that he would even attract the attention of passersby in the hallway. He always made an effort to build a rapport with his students, and taught them how even the seemingly uninteresting parts can be cool, too.I’ve taken Dr. Edgar’s philosophy on teaching to heart and have begun teaching others in this same way. I’ve always loved science because its foundation hinges on finding new frontiers and forging new discoveries in a dynamic and ever changing field. I achieved a Master’s degree in Chemistry from a world-renown University, Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland where I not only received a wonderful education but truly grew as a person. I later went on to work in the biopharmaceutical industry for 4 years and ultimately secured a position at a prestigious university, doing ground breaking research on hearing loss. Within my lab I am often looked upon as an expert, and positively impact my colleagues by mentoring junior members of our lab. My enthusiasm for the subject matter is often contagious, and confers excitement in others. This emboldens my peers to grow, which is what being an excellent teacher is all about. I’ve seen first-hand how patience and excitement can take even the most meager ember and cultivate it into a blazing fire. Likewise, given the right environment and proper direction, students can be transformed from a small glow, to a radiant light for others to reflect upon.I am available to tutor evenings after 6pm and anytime on weekends. I would love to hear more about this tutoring opportunity.

The job of a teacher or tutor involves the consideration of many different factors and variables when working with students. It is not as simple as passing on information about a subject or topic. As instructors, we must not only inform, but also explain, clarify, backtrack, bring in outside examples, and respond to challenging questions. We must comfort and relax our students, and help them develop tools for success. We know that our job is challenging, because if our job were easy, then our students wouldn't need us.I feel that it takes someone who is cognizant of all of these things in order to be a truly effective educator. During my 8+ years as a high school chemistry teacher and tutor, I have developed the experience and the skills in order to help students with challenging subjects, and not only to improve their grades, but to improve their understanding and confidence with which they approach their classes. While my own knowledge of chemistry and math is very strong, that means nothing if I can not pass it on to people learning the subjects. That is where I take pride in my abilities though - my students over the years consistently praised my ability to take complex ideas and break them down into relatable and manageable ideas. I have seen countless students struggle initially, only to succeed and flourish with a little bit of effort and assistance. If you are interested in being tutored, you are most likely a bright, hardworking student. Chemistry and math are very difficult subjects to master, and very few people make it through them without the assistance of teachers, peers, or tutors. I am here to help any students that are looking to feel more confident and comfortable, to improve their grades, to gain better understanding of fascinating topics, and to prepare themselves for the rigors of college or graduate school. I will do whatever it takes to help you master the material, drawing on my years of experience and all of the practice I have had with these subjects. I take being an educator very seriously, and I will help anybody that is looking to help themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Little Rock's 18 school districts with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends a school in the Little Rock School District, Pulaski County Special School District, or any of the other districts serving the area's 39,445 students, we can match them with a tutor who understands local curriculum standards and educational goals.

Tutors working with Varsity Tutors are familiar with Arkansas's academic standards and can tailor instruction to help students master grade-level expectations in core subjects. Whether your student needs support with Arkansas-specific assessments, state science standards, or literacy benchmarks, personalized 1-on-1 instruction focuses on the exact skills and content your student's school emphasizes.

Students in Little Rock commonly seek tutoring in math, reading and language arts, science, and test preparation for standardized assessments. Many students also benefit from support in algebra and geometry as they progress through middle and high school. Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors across all academic subjects, so we can match your student with expertise in whatever area they need most.

With an average student-teacher ratio of 14.9:1 across Little Rock schools, many students benefit from the individualized attention that personalized tutoring provides. A tutor can focus entirely on your student's unique learning style, pace, and specific gaps—something that's difficult in a traditional classroom setting. This targeted support helps students build confidence and master concepts more deeply.

The first session is an opportunity for the tutor to understand your student's current level, learning goals, and any specific challenges they're facing. The tutor will ask questions about what your student is working on in school, identify areas where they need the most support, and explain how personalized instruction will help them succeed. This foundation allows the tutor to create a customized plan for future sessions.

Many students show noticeable improvement in confidence and understanding within the first few weeks of consistent tutoring. More significant gains in grades, test scores, or mastery of difficult concepts typically develop over a few months of regular sessions. The timeline depends on your student's starting point, the subject matter, and how frequently they meet with their tutor—your tutor will help set realistic expectations based on your student's specific situation.

Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who have demonstrated expertise in their subject areas, often including teachers, subject matter specialists, and experienced educators. Each tutor goes through a vetting process to ensure they can provide high-quality instruction. You'll have the opportunity to learn about your tutor's background and experience before your first session.

Yes, personalized tutoring is designed to work around your student's schedule. Whether your student is juggling school, extracurriculars, or work, you can arrange sessions at times that work best for your family. Tutors offer flexibility with scheduling, and you can adjust frequency and timing as your student's needs change throughout the school year.
