Recent DeBary Tutoring Session Notes

Tutoring review by Shannon in DeBary, FL
The student and I discussed her habits as far as managing her time and keeping track of assignments. She told me she has a calendar that she uses to write down when she receive assignments, but she doesn't write down when something is due, nor does she write down quiz/test dates. I suggested she keep a monthly planner and write down when readings, quizzes etc. are due PLUS write down her recurring events, like volleyball practice and games, plus her time at church and any other activities. She told me she thinks she has a quiz in her history class. The student is going to try writing things down and then transferring them to her computer when she gets home. I did not see any scores or grades. The session ended with the student agreeing to finish reading her chapter and to start making notes on the chapter as a whole (and not just on highlighted/bolded terms).

Tutoring review by Catherine in DeBary, FL
During the session we went over how to find the inverse of a function and the tangent of an inverse function. We also covered an ACT math practice packet. During the ACT practice questions, we went over strategies for recognizing how to solve problems efficiently and reviewed common concepts so that she will feel confident for her upcoming exam. She is obviously an excellent student who understand the majority of the concepts we covered during this session. She should pay attention to numbers when she's writing them to make sure she's using the correct ones. She had a few copying errors, but over all was detail oriented. She had a very positive attitude toward the material that was reviewed and it was a pleasure working with her.

Tutoring review by Lea in DeBary, FL
We went over chapter 14 for her test this week along with doing some ACT work. She seems to grasp chapter 14 way better than some of the other chapters which I am happy about because stats can be really hard for some people. I believe that she will do well on the test as long as she keeps straight what calculations to do based on the question that is asked and understanding exactly what is being asked even if the question is worded differently.

Tutoring review by Ryan in DeBary, FL
We covered the fundamentals: alphabet (identification of letters and corresponding sounds A-P). The student's attitude was positive because he began to understand the letters with which he had previously had problems. By the end of the session, he began to understand some short vowel sounds and their relationship with consonants.

The student and I covered the new CR questions from the verbal guide book. We will continue this practice set next time. So far, he has been doing fairly well at this question type. We will focus down on the most difficult ones next session to fine tune his process. We will also address any questions he had from his practice exams.
