We covered measurement conversions today. We did some online work as well as practiced in the book. The student was feeling good and responsive about the material. Overall we achieved a good amount of work.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Audrey in Lehi, UT
The student had some difficulty computing hours worked, e.g.10:30 pm to 5:20 am. I had him list the time after each hour and drew a clock to determine the remaining minutes. We practiced some baseline examples on an analog clock, e.g.5:00, 5:15, 5:30, 5:45. We also reviewed rounding off money. His error was not noting the correct place value. We also reviewed how many weeks in a year, how many days in a year, and what biweekly meant. He does do well on changing a percent to a decimal.

The student and I covered Grade 5 Math, including prime and composite numbers, prime factor trees, greatest common factor, and shortcuts to dividing numbers. There were small challenges that occurred during the session, such as some divisibility problems. The student was extremely cooperative and made progress in the new material that he was learning. He was able to work the problems independently and was able to retain what I was teaching him after some guided prompts.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Samantha in Lehi, UT
We went through a practice math analogy test. For the first couple problems the student wanted to find the answer quickly and misread the problem (for example, she at first didn't noticed the placement of the equals sign). Once she got into the swing of things though she was great at it. We went on to do some common core word problems before finishing off with some geometry in her book. Since she catches on so quickly, the only real strategy we used was encouraging her to take her time and explain her thinking. I suggested the name of a math analogy book I saw online, recommended continued work online, and left some examples of math analogies that can changed with different numbers throughout the week for extra practice.

Trigonometry Tutoring review by Stephanie in Lehi, UT
This student did a great job today! I realized that I gave him a lot of practice from the previous session, so we spent the first portion of the session reviewing those problems, and he only had issues with a few of them, so overall he did really well. His quiz was on multi-step integer equations, multiplication and division, and he got 9/10. He needed help a bit with equations missing numbers, so we spent time on that, and I introduced modeling integer equations to him on the number line. I gave him some additional problems with missing numbers and modeling, which will be what we quiz on during the next session, and an optional scientific notation worksheet if he wants to get a head start!
