I am currently a lead preschool teacher. I received my Bachelor's in Psychology from VCU and am looking to return to school to further my education. While in college, I worked as a Supplemental Instruction leader, teaching general biology and anatomy. I have also worked in an after school program with elementary age children, but I have my fondest memories volunteering as a counselor for Camp Kesem. In my own experience, I loved school and now I love teaching even more at all age levels! I especially enjoy the challenge of getting creative to discover what approach and mediums work best for each student. I am available for in person as well as online tutoring.

Andrea's experience teaching children of immigrants at a refugee center — kids who were simultaneously learning English and adapting to American school curricula — gave her a sharp sense of how to explain arithmetic concepts without relying on language alone. She leans on drawings, physical objects, and pattern recognition to make operations like regrouping and basic division accessible to any young learner, regardless of starting point. Rated 4.7 by families.
Building number sense early — understanding place value, basic operations, and simple word problems — sets the trajectory for everything that comes after in math. Lauren studied education at Northwestern and has experience tutoring young learners in after-school programs, so she knows how to keep lessons structured without losing a child's attention.
Multiplication tables, basic fractions, and place value aren't just rote skills — they're the building blocks that determine how a student handles every math class that follows. Jean teaches elementary math by making these foundational concepts tangible, using step-by-step problem solving that gives young learners genuine confidence with numbers.
Every elementary math concept, from skip counting to long division to basic fractions, is a building block for what comes next — and gaps at this stage compound quickly. Hasan runs an after-school program at a classical academy in Phoenix, so he spends his days identifying exactly where a young student's understanding breaks down and addressing it with hands-on, visual strategies that make abstract ideas concrete.
Running a writing program for elementary students and teaching Algebra I at a community center gave Katherine a clear picture of how kids at different stages relate to numbers — and where confusion tends to start. She zeroes in on the mental models behind addition, subtraction, and early multiplication so that a student's grasp of arithmetic actually holds up when problems get harder.
Building number sense early — not just memorizing multiplication tables but understanding why grouping and place value work — sets kids up for every math class that follows. Jeanette uses concrete examples and visual strategies to make concepts like fractions, measurement, and basic operations click before moving to more abstract practice.
Multiplication strategies, place value, and early fraction concepts all click faster when a student understands the 'why' behind each step. Jessi's psychology background gives her insight into how younger learners process new information, and she uses that to tailor explanations — whether a kid needs manipulatives, drawings, or word-problem storytelling to make a concept stick.
Multiplication tables, place value, basic fractions — elementary math is deceptively important because every future math concept depends on it. Gabriel's background in human development gives him sharp insight into how younger learners think and build number sense. He keeps sessions interactive and concrete, turning abstract ideas into something a child can visualize and explain back.
Teaching young learners multiplication tables or place value requires patience and creativity in equal measure. Jean has taught students as young as toddlers and understands that elementary math sticks best when it's hands-on — using tangible examples, patterns, and games rather than rote drills. Her medical training also means she's attuned to how developing minds learn, which shapes how she paces each session.
At the elementary level, math should feel like puzzle-solving, not punishment. Samantha uses real-world examples — splitting snacks evenly, measuring ingredients, counting change — to make addition, subtraction, multiplication, and place value tangible. She's especially good at reading when a young learner is losing focus and pivoting to keep the session productive.
Getting comfortable with multiplication facts, place value, and basic fractions early on makes every math class that follows significantly easier. Li uses visual strategies and real-world examples — measuring ingredients, splitting groups evenly — to make these foundational concepts click for younger learners.
Long division, fractions, and place value might seem simple, but the way a student first learns these ideas shapes how they think about math for years. Kristi brings nearly a decade of experience teaching across every math level, which means she understands exactly which foundational skills matter most and how to make them stick. She's rated 5.0 by her students.
Victoria taught first, second, and third graders for three years through Teach for America, building lessons around place value, basic operations, and early problem-solving every single day. That classroom experience — not just tutoring, but full-time teaching — means she knows how young learners develop number sense and where common misconceptions around regrouping or fractions tend to take root.
