My expertise spans a wide range of subjects, English Language (grammar, syntax, and all the 'fun" stuff) and composition (the act of written expression), reading for comprehension, literary analysis, Honors and AP English, Mythology, Debate and public speaking, creative writing (I'm even a published author), college application essays, university level research essays, and test preparation coaching for High School, University, and Grad level testing. I am passionate about creating a learning environment where I empower students to find their own unique voices and express their ideas with confidence. I specialize in breaking down assignments into easy-to-follow steps, and I utilize a variety of diverse teaching methods to tailor a tutoring session to what an individual student needs. I'm especially good with neurodivergent or non-traditional students--not only am I one myself, but both my kids are and I've adjusted my practices many times to better fit what a student needs in order to be successful in an academic setting that isn't one-size-fits-all. My goal is to inspire students to realize their own potential and to transform writing from a confusing or intimidating task into an enjoyable and rewarding experience. In all my years as a teacher, the one thing I missed most was the chance to talk one-on-one with a student and really listen to what they needed--tutoring lets me do just that!
