About Me

My favorite moment in teaching is when a student realizes they're smarter than they thought they were. That's what I'm working toward in every session. I have thirty years of experience teaching literature, writing, art history, and humanities from middle school through graduate school. I taught AP Literature and AP Art History at the secondary level and spent sixteen years on the graduate faculty at Towson University. I hold a Master's in English Literature from Middlebury College, with coursework at Oxford University's Lincoln College. I also founded a secondary school writing center focused on college application essays and academic writing. What I do differently: I start by figuring out how you learn. Once I understand how a student's mind works, I can show them how to use that and they carry it into every class, not just mine.
