I am an aspiring physician, I believe that there are many parallels between the two fields of medicine and education that would enable me to provide a unique and meaningful perspective to the classroom. Medicine demands effective education through teaching patients and their families about specific treatments, the manifestation of certain diseases, and the mechanisms of infection within specific physiological pathways. I truly began to appreciate this after interacting with my own pediatrician, who had built her own clinic from the ground-up using her knowledge, the power of education, and the strength of connection. Concerned parents entered the visiting room with coughing and crying parents and emerged with their worries assuaged and feeling more empowered knowing how to take care of their child. This considered, it is vital for every physician to become properly trained to handle these responsibilities: to be effective communicators and leaders, to dissect complex concepts into manageable chunks, and to serve as beacons of support to those seeking his or her support. This is why I want to become an educator before I embark on my medical school journey because I know that, without valuing this integral yet often disregarded facet of medicine, I will not be able to provide the best care possible to my patients. Diagnosis demands more than medicine - it requires care, attention and compassion. These skills, although may be taught in tandem with classroom lectures, can be more fully appreciated through connection and service. This is why I hope to become a Varsity Tutor in the near future: to help build connections with students through service and education as well as foster a passion for learning and academic leadership both in and out of the classroom.

I'm Dennis. I study physics, math, and computer science. I have done research about cosmic ray acceleration at supernova shock fronts in the Princeton University Department of Astrophysics, simulating how the turbulent plasmas push protons and ions. I have also worked at the Norfolk State University Department of Engineering, designing, simulating, optimizing, and building light filters for wavelength-division optical-electronic multiplexers. Another field I study is the mathematics of quasicrystals and aperiodic tilings, such as the Penrose tiling of rhombuses.

I am a current student at the University of Pennsylvania majoring in English and minoring in journalism and art history. I am very passionate about literature, writing and history, and I love sharing my knowledge and learning new things. In the past few years, I have worked with young children learning to read and high school Latin students, and I also love working with students on improving Standardized Test results. In my spare time, I love reading, music and anything active!

I am extremely passionate about academics and learning; the value of each was inculcated into me at a very young age. I tutor a variety of subjects largely because I have so many areas of interests and have been privileged enough to pursue knowledge in those areas. I'm a sophomore at Vanderbilt University, majoring in Physics and Classics and minoring in Mathematics and Computer Science. I'm qualified to teach a wide variety of subjects, but prefer to focus on the fields I'm studying in school listed above; I have a passion for those areas that I want to share with everyone, no matter the education level or confidence. I believe that no one is "bad at math," but many people haven't been taught math and science concepts in a way that matches how they best learn. As a result, I try to tailor my teaching style to be the best it can be for each individual student. With regard to math and physics, I myself prefer a physical, graphical understanding of different concepts, so I do best at explaining what seemingly abstract concepts actually mean in the real world and how they act on a graph.

I am originally from New York City and am a student at the University of Pennsylvania studying Political Science, Economics, and Psychology. Having gone through high school and the whole college process within recent memory, I am at the unique intersection of having a very current understanding of the challenges, and of having gained experience and perspective from college. I started tutoring as soon as I had real knowledge to share, which for me was in the eighth grade. In the way a six-year-old might feel an unwavering sense of duty and pride from being charged with returning scissors to the desk, I felt the true significance of the job I had been given. Tutoring has never lost this importance for me and I continue to approach each student with the same level of preparation and commitment as I did all those years ago. As both a nationally-ranked swimmer and a student I learned meticulous organization and time management. I am a good tutor and teacher because I am patient, encouraging, and have good communication and classroom management skills. I do not get frustrated if my students do not understand something right away; instead, I look for an alternative way to explain whatever is confusing to my students.

I'm Emma! I'm a rising senior Classics major at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. I study Latin, Ancient Greek, and the histories associated with the two languages. Outside of class, I'm an RA, and I spend 6-8 hours a week tutoring and teaching college access courses in a nearby high school. In the future, I hope to teach high school Latin!

I'm an electrical engineering major at Brown University with interests in neuroscience, linguistics, and robotics, among other things. I've always loved learning, and my curiosity has led me through numerous subject areas. I constantly seek to apply my classroom learning in practical situations. For example, I have conducted research on dementia using electrophysiology in a mollusk model. I participate in hackathons and robotics challenges that test not only my programming ability but also my hardware skills as a tinkerer. My engineering pursuits require a strong foundation in mathematics, my interest in the life sciences calls for a myriad of memorization techniques, and my participation in the academic world at large reminds me daily of the importance of sharp writing skills. I hope to share some of these things, both content and technique, with my students. Though I will make sure that they can come away from each session armed with the skills needed to take on the modern education system, I also hope that they will take with them some appreciation for learning itself.

I am a freshman at Yale University, hailing originally from Seattle in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I believe that education is one of the most fundamental aspects of a society's wellbeing, and that it is the duty of those of us who have been graced with the advantages of a good education to give back in some way; one of my motivations for tutoring is to do my part in that way.

I am comfortable tutoring a variety of subjects, I am most passionate about writing and language, and I truly believe that strong writing skills are an asset in every area of life. Through my experience as an after-school program manager, I learned to build relationships and work well with students, parents, and teachers to meet student goals. In response to the pandemic, I quickly learned ways to adapt my educational youth work to a virtual setting. I am a high school English teacher, currently working primarily with 10th grade students. I have previously worked at middle and elementary schools as well. I graduated from the University of Chicago in 2016 with a B.A. in English and Theatre. I then got my M.S.Ed from Northwestern. I have worked with children of all ages in various capacities, including teaching, and I find that the best way for students to learn is to have fun and engage them.

I am currently a student at Stanford University working towards a degree in Management Science and Engineering. I boast a strong background in math and science, but also excel in English and language (my minor). Having spent much of my youth in South America, I am fluent in Portuguese and English, which I have extensive experiencing tutoring students in. I am a firm believer in the importance of a robust education, and I hope I can help my students expand theirs. In my spare time, I enjoy writing and playing music.

I am most interested in tutoring students in Latin or in English literature. I can also teach elementary Ancient Greek to any interested students. My strengths include language, writing, and literary analysis. I can also offer test prep help to students struggling with the SAT writing or critical reading sections, or the subject tests and AP Exams in Latin or English Literature. My philosophy is that students who are happy, engaged, and excited about the material, regardless of ability level, are the best learners. For test prep, this means avoiding the hysteria that many feel about the exams and focusing on the material itself with a realistic view of how to get the most out of the test. For Latin and English Literature, this means forgetting about right and wrong and discovering the joy of interpretation and of language. Outside of academics I am interested in guitar playing and the history of American popular music.

I am also available for lessons in any humanities related field, from history and literature to philosophy, psychology, cultural studies, and world civilization. My broad experience as a teacher qualifies me to work with students from middle school all the way to the PhD.

I am a Speech Pathology major completing my master's degree at Vanderbilt University. I completed my Bachelor???s at the University of South Florida with an honors thesis on the current research in the field of linguistic relativity among bilinguals. My research interests include literacy, the relationship between cognition and language, and the history of language. My other interests include public speaking and volunteering. My goal is to become a Ph.D. researcher after I obtain my Certificate of Clinical Competence as a speech therapist. I tutor a wide variety of ages in a range of subjects, including but not limited to test preparation, latin, philosophy, and writing. I try to incorporate research-based techniques and methods into my tutoring whenever possible.

I'm a sophomore at Yale University working towards a major in Ethics, Politics, and Economics. I have experience tutoring both in person and online, with agencies and independently. I tutor standardized tests, English reading and writing, Spanish, and Latin, as well as my favorite subject to teach: math. I love teaching math because seemingly complicated problems can always be broken down into simpler steps, and it is rewarding to help students understand concepts that seem daunting to them at first. While tutoring math, it is very clear that each and every student has potential, and some use need guidance to discover what they are capable of.
