I am a graduate of Brown University, where I earned my B.A. in Literary Arts and Visual Arts, taking courses in a wide array of subjects ranging from contemporary American fiction to ancient Indian classics. My first teaching experience came in college when I had the privilege of creating and teaching a series of literature courses at a local community center. There are few experiences I find more enriching than facilitating a meaningful dialogue centered around great works of literature and art. While literature and art are my passion, I also tutor in variety of other subjects, including math, science, and test preparation. I currently work as a lead teacher in the after-school program at Archway Classical Academy in Phoenix.

I'm comfortable tutoring on a number of subjects, I particularly enjoy teaching English, writing, and critical reading. I like working one on one with students, helping them to think through problems, formulate opinions, and articulate their thoughts. This involves working on vocabulary, grammar, and writing mechanics. These are invaluable skills, essential for writing essays and preparing for Standardized Tests, like the SAT.

I am a current graduate student at Columbia University in the City of New York. Tutoring since high school, I have worked with students ages 11-22 (from middle school through college) in subjects as varied as math, organizational skills, PRAXIS prep, and of course, biochemistry! Additionally, I am well-versed in GRE, SAT, ACT, and AP exam coaching. Outside of the classroom, I have and continue to work in biochemical laboratories, play viola in an orchestra, and cross-country hike. As a student of pedagogy, I adapt to each student's unique needs to deliver hands-on approaches that use real world examples and provide mastery in comprehension. I believe that knowledge is power, but only in the application and advancement of knowledge can one find success.

I am a native of western Pennsylvania. This is where I grew up, attended high school, and began my college career. I completed my Bachelor of Arts at the University of Pittsburgh in 2011. I left Pittsburgh to attend the University of Chicago, from which I graduated in 2013. I stayed in Chicago to teach at the college level for 2.5 years, before returning to the Pittsburgh area. Underlying my academic experience is my passion for education. I am a first-generation college graduate (or as I like to call it, an "academic immigrant"). This means that I've learned on my own, and often the hard way, about the ins and outs of higher education, so I can understand how challenging - and truly rewarding - it can be. I am multi-media artist and educator working at intersections of audio documentary, performance, and media literacy. I have worked with middle and high school students in a variety of settings and contexts, teaching visual and performing arts, journalism, politics, and art history in classrooms, museums and other non-profit organizations, and in community-based mentorships in New York, Chicago, and Vienna. Through these experiences, I have developed a diverse skill set to address challenges to individual learning and growth.

I am excited to become a tutor with Varsity Tutors because I have a deep passion for learning and the journey of thinking. I am a junior at Vanderbilt University studying Child Development and Art History, and I have always had a passion for tutoring and mentorship. I am a recent graduate of Cornell University with a bachelors degree in both English and History and am currently pursuing my Masters degree in History at the University of Pennsylvania. My long-term goals include enrolling in a Phd program in the History department and becoming a form of history or social studies teacher post-graduation. I currently work with Varsity Tutoring as an online tutor and want to expand my tutoring opportunities. During my time at Cornell, I participated in a tutoring program for two years called AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) which is an organization that aims to close the achievement gap between students and prepare them for college and other postsecondary opportunities. Many of the goals that were part of the program, such as teaching students skills and behaviors for academic success, providing intensive support to maintain positive student/teacher relationships and developing a sense of personal achievement through hard work.

I am currently a senior at the Stern School of Business at NYU, graduating this semester. I am majoring in Management and Finance with a minor in History. Professionally I aligned to Strategy Consulting overall, but have numerous interests in M&A, Private Equity, and Venture Capital. I have tutored peers and students for the past 7 years of my life and I have always assumed a role of a mentor, instead of being a simple tutor. Tutoring in general is a perfect means of passing down tips and experience gathered over years of schooling that help numerous students, no matter where they are. Outside of all of these aspectes, I am an avid traveler and have a huge passion to touch every little piece of the globe. The world's various cultures and people have lived a different subset of experiences than we have in our Western society. The ability to open one's perspective to these varying views and approaches to life is a key element of learning and such experiences are critical to everyone's development. I'm a educator and visual artist with many years of experience teaching and tutoring high school and college students. I have a BA in Political Science from New College of Florida and a MFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. While I'm a photographer by trade, I also have a passion for and expertise in Math and the Natural Sciences -- as well as French and Spanish, having studied and worked in both Paris and Central America. While I'm proficient now, I struggled with both languages early on, and understand the challenges of both starting a new language and in moving from a conversational to a more proficient level. I'm also available for ACT and SAT test prep -- and work especially well with students who are visual learners (though I have a wide range of materials and resources for all styles of learning!).

I am a college professor with over 10 years experience teaching in higher education (and have loved every minute of it). I am an artist, having received my Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where I also taught Sculpture. I am a Virginia native who has recently relocated to Cincinnati after a year spent abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland. I received my BA in English Literature from Virginia Tech. (GO HOKIES!) I am a senior in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Eastern Michigan University, and I have been tutoring for about five years, from middle school to early college age students. My hobbies are painting/drawing, playing piano and guitar, and playing with my pet rats and my cat!

I am a graduate of James Madison University. I double majored in English Literature and Arabic. In college, I started tutoring students of all ages. I assisted them in various areas of study, including essay and Arabic grammar. After college, I worked at a refugee center with children of immigrants. I helped them to adjust to a new environment, while simultaneously adapting to the public school curriculum. I'm Emma! I'm a rising senior Classics major at Carleton College in Northfield, MN. I study Latin, Ancient Greek, and the histories associated with the two languages. I am a high school history teacher who has also worked as a teaching assistant at one of the country's top 10 colleges. I've taught ACT/SAT prep for about 4 years to students at all ends of the academic spectrum: from those working with learning disabilities/accommodations & struggling with timing to those trying to achieve perfect scores. I'm a current student at Johns Hopkins University pursuing a bachelor's in both Neuroscience and Molecular & Cellular Biology. My favorite subjects to tutor are biology, chemistry, psychology, art history, and environmental science on both a high school and Advanced Placement level.
