I am a graduate of the University of Chicago where I received my undergraduate degree in political science. Right after graduation, I worked as an academic and test prep tutor as well as admissions consultant in Hong Kong. For the past two years, I worked with a number of students to help prepare them for college in the United States.

I am exploring my creativity by pursuing a double major in Asian Languages and Cultures with a focus in Korean, studying abroad in South Korea as a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholar, leading workshops that teach 3D printing and CAD for undergraduate students as the president of 3D4E, advocating for the first-generation and low-income student community as the Outreach Chair of the Quest+ Scholars Network, and getting involved with the Society of Women Engineers' outreach committee. I currently hold a work-study position as an administrative clerical aide in the Institute of Sustainability and Energy at Northwestern and was an undergraduate researcher in the John Rogers Lab. As I look forward with aspirations of applying to graduate school, areas of research in biomedical engineering and biotechnology that I am particularly interested in include biomaterials, pharmaceuticals, and drug delivery systems. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy learning on my own and sharing my experience and knowledge with my peers and other students. I hope to make use of my experiences with academics and learning in high school and so far in my undergraduate career in order to effectively tutor students who may be experiencing the same struggles in learning that I also experienced.

I am a graduate of the University of Chicago, with a bachelor's degree in psychology and linguistics. Currently, I am pursuing a master's degree in speech-language pathology at Teachers College, Columbia University. In the past, I have worked as a teacher's aide in a public school classroom, a mentor to middle school girls, an instructor and tutor at the literacy education organization 826, and a summer camp counselor. I am a rising junior at Princeton University pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy with a certificate in Statistics and Machine Learning. I am highly passionate about education: during the academic year, I serve as a volunteer tutor for the Petey Greene Program, which provides educational assistance to those incarcerated in New Jersey prisons; after graduation, I hope to work toward becoming a high school mathematics teacher. I am currently a student at Duke University studying Biomedical Engineering and Economics. Just a little bit about me and some of my interests. Some of my favorite academic interests include memoirs and modern classics. I think Catcher in the Rye is still one of my all time favorite books but Percy Jackson, a modern classic, is up there too. Beyond academics, I take great guilty pleasure in watching TV shows such as Westworld, Sherlock, How I Met Your Mother, and even The Bachelorette when I'm at a low point.

I am a math enthusiast who is passionate about helping students gain confidence and achieve. I began tutoring other students in middle school and continued throughout high school. I believe all students have the potential to understand math, but they can be intimated or have trouble finding the learning method that works for them. With my extensive experience tutoring students of various age groups through different mediums, I have seen how my emphasis on building a strong foundation and understanding how concepts/formulas work, patience, and encouragement helped students see math in an approachable manner. I participated and scored well in various math competitions throughout high school. Additionally, I am experienced in high school standardized test preparation. I am also a native Mandarin speaker.

I'm a freshman at Stanford University pursuing a degree in mathematical and computational science. I am a recent graduate of Yale University and incoming first year medical student at Columbia University. Originally from the DC area, I have always had a passion for science and medicine and pursued a degree in Biology while at Yale. During the 2008-2009 academic year, I tutored science, math, English, history, and Mandarin Chinese part-time with a DC-based tutoring company. At Yale, I worked as a freshman counselor to provide academic and career advice to incoming freshmen. I am currently a sophomore pursuing a bachelor of arts degree in Medicine, Health, and Society. Being a student, Ive understood the frustration of not knowing what to do or who to turn to in the moment I dont understand something. This feeling can be very disheartening, but having the right person to guide you can make all the difference. For struggling students, I want to be that person to help them reach their full potential. In high school, I tutored people (mostly high school students like myself at the time) within the community, and it was personally rewarding every time I saw a student gain confidence in their studies.

I am currently a student at Cornell University. At Cornell, I have maintained a 3.88 GPA and made the Dean's List every semester. I attended a small private high school and graduated at the top of my class with a 4.0 GPA (unweighted). My ACT Composite score was 34, and I am an AP Scholar with Honors.

I'm an undergraduate at Brown University with a planned concentration in Health and Human Biology and Visual Art. I have had extensive experience working as a summer camp counselor, teaching at a Mandarin School, working as an SAT Tutor, and tutoring Physics, Biology, and Math at a local high school. I'm an electrical engineering major at Brown University with interests in neuroscience, linguistics, and robotics, among other things. I've always loved learning, and my curiosity has led me through numerous subject areas. I constantly seek to apply my classroom learning in practical situations. For example, I have conducted research on dementia using electrophysiology in a mollusk model. I participate in hackathons and robotics challenges that test not only my programming ability but also my hardware skills as a tinkerer. My engineering pursuits require a strong foundation in mathematics, my interest in the life sciences calls for a myriad of memorization techniques, and my participation in the academic world at large reminds me daily of the importance of sharp writing skills. I hope to share some of these things, both content and technique, with my students. Though I will make sure that they can come away from each session armed with the skills needed to take on the modern education system, I also hope that they will take with them some appreciation for learning itself.

I am a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in Human Development and Psychological Services and Psychology at Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy. Before coming to Northwestern, I had the privilege to grow up with good teachers under a rigorous IB curriculum in Shanghai, China, granting me access to quality education that I know many of my peers and other students across the world do not have. Thus, my hopes to combat education inequities, utilize my experiences with multicultural/special education contexts, and be continually inspired by students in addition to offering them the personalized support they deserve is what drives me to work with students. I've guided students with special needs aged 3-14 through summer program activities in Shanghai, coordinated an after-school program for K-12 refugee students in Chicago, and interacted with secondary school students in Jinja, Uganda. Since my first year in college, I've worked as a tutor for a morning program in an elementary school in Evanston. I have the most experience tutoring Elementary School Math and Reading and the most content knowledge in Psychology, though I am also passionate about helping students with ACTs/College apps due to having myself navigated through the system's challenges recently. In addition, I'd be happy to dive into Mandarin Chinese as it is another native language I speak. From my tutoring experiences and taking classes within the Learning Sciences, I find it important to listen to student needs and interests while maintaining encouragement to challenge themselves in the spirit of learning, and be a source of emotional support in addition to providing knowledge. I am a Dartmouth College senior majoring in Computer Science and Digital Arts with several years of tutoring/mentoring experience. I have achieved scores in the 99th percentile for both the ACT and SAT prior to college. While in high school (St. Paul Academy graduate), I spent my time volunteering at the homeless shelter, helping out with their daycare and tutoring children. Nowadays, I spend most of my tutor hours helping students with the ACT, editing college essays, or imparting some admission-worthy wisdom.

I am proficient in both Pinyin and Mandarin Phonetic Symbols and can write professionally in both Simplified and Traditional Chinese. I have studied linguistics, phonology, semantic, and Chinese paleography and have used them to facilitate my teaching with great success; I am also very familiar with both contemporary and ancient Chinese literature. I have five-year experience in private tutoring in Chinese, as both a language skill and a school subject, in preparation of the national college admission tests, and in undergraduate-level Chinese composition. I also wrote and edited a published preparation material for Chinese language of the National Basic Competence Test. In addition, I have worked on editing college and graduate school admission essays since 2005. Most of my students were accepted by top universities in Taiwan, such as National Taiwan University, National Taiwan Normal University and National Yang-Ming University; while I, too, taught and designed the course for a student with learning disorder and had a desirable result.

I am a graduate of Vanderbilt University class of 2016 majoring in Neuroscience.
