I aspire to be a great inventor and hope that my ideas and creations may simplify life as we know it and bring health, comfort, and joy to the masses. My favorite book is "Good Omens" by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett and I recommend that everyone read promptly.
I'm a passionate explorer, educator, and scientist. I am a Planetary Science Researcher (PhD, 2008). I write grants to NASA to use spacecraft data to study the composition and evolution of rocky planetary bodies (Moon, Mercury, asteroids). My research is broad and interdisciplinary that equips me to tutor many subjects and also to show students connections between subjects when it improves subject mastery. I have been teaching and tutoring for over twenty years, at every level of my education and career. In high school I taught aerospace education and aviation search and rescue while I earned my pilot's license. As an undergraduate at Duke I tutored athletes in Geology, Calculus, and Electrical Engineering core courses and I was a teaching assistant for Computer Science and Linear Circuits Laboratory. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant in geology. And as a professor, I've taught undergraduate and graduate science courses at a major U.S. research university. I am one year from completing my Bachelor of Science at the Florida Institute of Technology. I am majoring in both Astronomy and Astrophysics, as well as Planetary Science; with a minor in Computer Science. Upon completion of my Bachelor degree I plan on pursuing a Masters degree, most likely in Physics, Exoplanetary Studies, or Engineering Physics. I find that most students struggle in math and physics because they lack true engagement towards these topics, it is my personal philosophy that how you learn a subject can immensely impact your abilities to succeed in and willingness to pursue related subjects in your academic career. I enjoy working with all ages, as I believe it is never too late to start learning and I enjoy helping students become passionate about their studies. Personally; I am passionate about the fundamental interplay between foundational mathematics and its applications to higher-level physics. My tutoring style/strategies require interactive engagement with students and honest communication; this allows me to understand precisely what is necessary to enhance your learning experience, and encourages students to engage with the content with curiosity and excitement. I feel comfortable tutoring subjects ranging from elementary school mathematics, up to college level mathematics and physics courses. I have experience tutoring my college peers in a wide-range of topics from college algebra and calculus to advanced physics courses such as Electromagnetic Theory and Physical Mechanics.
I'm not shy, but if you are it's ok I once was too. I'm a student of the mind and so all of my teachings will be tailored toward each individual or group traits that day. It's ok to fail, but don't allow yourself to quit. Learning is hard sometimes because everyone's brain understands things in a different way. But those differences, when explored, can make learning fun and make complex topics easier to understand. I'm not the old guy who loves hearing his own voice and likes to stand; so I don't lecture. I like to keep teaching/learning process fun, interactive, and creative because no one likes to be bored and confused. So involvement is key!
I'm a current student at the University of Central Florida and I love to tutor passionate students in a variety of subjects. I've taken and passed 15 AP exams in high school, and I've taken several courses at UCF that I could tutor as well.
I'm currently an undergraduate student at Georgia Institute of Technology pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering. I mostly tutor subjects that reside in the STEM field as those subjects are my strong points. I have been a tutor in the past back in high school. I'm an electrical engineering major at Brown University with interests in neuroscience, linguistics, and robotics, among other things. I've always loved learning, and my curiosity has led me through numerous subject areas. I constantly seek to apply my classroom learning in practical situations. For example, I have conducted research on dementia using electrophysiology in a mollusk model. I participate in hackathons and robotics challenges that test not only my programming ability but also my hardware skills as a tinkerer. My engineering pursuits require a strong foundation in mathematics, my interest in the life sciences calls for a myriad of memorization techniques, and my participation in the academic world at large reminds me daily of the importance of sharp writing skills. I hope to share some of these things, both content and technique, with my students. Though I will make sure that they can come away from each session armed with the skills needed to take on the modern education system, I also hope that they will take with them some appreciation for learning itself.
