I am working toward an MD at Stanford University. I am happy to help with MCAT, SAT, SAT subject, AP test prep, and general academic subjects. Throughout my 8 years of experiencing tutoring middle school and high school students, I aim to help students raise their test scores through targeting points of weakness and developing the tools to conquer those areas. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy running, listening to music, traveling, and reading.

I am a recent graduate of Yale University and incoming first year medical student at Columbia University. Originally from the DC area, I have always had a passion for science and medicine and pursued a degree in Biology while at Yale. During the 2008-2009 academic year, I tutored science, math, English, history, and Mandarin Chinese part-time with a DC-based tutoring company. At Yale, I worked as a freshman counselor to provide academic and career advice to incoming freshmen. I have taken both SAT and MCAT test prep classes and am familiar with both tests as well as the preparation necessary to score well. My personal career goals include attending medical school to pursue either immunology/infectious diseases or psych/neurology, teaching biology at the university level, and working in public/global health with either the CDC or the WHO.

I am a recent Cornell University graduate (Dec '23) majoring in Biological Sciences with a focus on Genetics, Genomics, and Development. My passion lies in healthcare, as I am currently preparing to attend medical school this upcoming fall. However, I have always had an interest in teaching. I started as a general chemistry TA, supporting students during problem solving sessions. Then, I helped teach our genetics lecture course, coordinating individual and group tutoring sessions that guided students in content application. This position transformed into a leadership role, organizing our teaching team while spearheading an initiative to train fellow teaching assistants in pedagogical techniques that I learned in a course I took on the art of teaching. Lastly, in an ethics of medicine course of non-STEM majors, I prepared and facilitated discussion sections on current topics in personalized medicine. These experiences, combined with my time as a teaching assistant in correctional facilities, helped me grow as a varsity tutor now going into my 4th year on this platform. Given this breadth of experience teaching diverse and unique students, I am eager and excited to support young scientists in any subject related to this field.

I am currently conducting breast cancer research as the lab manager in an immunology lab at Columbia University Medical Center. I am extremely comfortable with physics and mathematics (from my studies) as well as biology, chemistry, and biochemistry (through my research experience) and sincerely enjoy tutoring students in those areas. I also enjoy tutoring for standardized tests. While I was studying for the SAT, ACT, and MCAT, all of my preparation was through self-study; as a result, I have a unique approach to preparing for tests that emphasizes knowing the test itself more than the actual material. In addition to tutoring natural sciences and standardized test prep, I tutor Spanish, which I studied for 7 years and spoke for a year while living in Spain. In my spare time, I play guitar, cook for my friends, read, and play with my cat Suki.

I find the most effective learning strategy is to understand the underlying concepts behind a subject, which facilitates the application of this knowledge to a wide range of novel problems in a testing environment. Additionally, by helping a student find a personal connection to the material, I can foster a passion for the subject that motivates independent learning.

When not passing my time sleeping outdoors waiting for assorted basketball tickets as a "Cameron Crazie," I study Evolutionary Anthropology with fortunate access to Duke's fascinating lemurs and primates. My aspiration since my matriculation at college has been to pursue medicine, and I have just recently finished piecing together my application for medical school. However, having also taken many AP courses in high school, I have a thorough working knowledge in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Spanish, and Psychology. I have tutored all throughout high school and also have previous experience working with Mad Science of Long Island teaching general concepts in science to younger students of ages between 5-12 years old. I am always excited when a student finally has that "ah-ha" moment and declares that they now can see how all of these seemingly separate scientific topics are actually all related. I am currently in a gap year applying to medical schools. I have been tutoring for almost 5 years since high school. I have taught a variety of ages from elementary school all the way to college age students with multiple subjects, but mostly math and science. My favorite subjects to tutor are physics and chemistry because I believe that after learning about some of these topics, it is super interesting to see how the theories and laws that you learn in class apply in the real world! I would describe my teaching style as primarily example based. I try and pull up real world applications and examples of questions that may come up in their testing and have students work to solve them. I am passionate about helping others not only get good grades, but also really learn and understand the materials. Outside of teaching, I enjoy watching and playing basketball, going to the gym, cooking, and listening to music.

I'm Felipe. I am a 3rd year pre-med college student studying Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. I first discovered my passion for teaching a few years ago when I began tutoring ACT and SAT for a tutoring company in my hometown of Frisco. Since then, I have gotten deeply involved with teaching. I have gotten to volunteer for non-profit college organizations at underserved Austin elementary schools to encourage kids to go into STEM, I have gotten to help teach for an introductory biomedical engineering laboratory class at UT, and I have been employed by UT's Engineering Student Services to tutor other students in organic chemistry for well over a year. In that time, I have found that I especially enjoy working with high school and college students. My journey as a student is far from over, so everything I teach is something that I have been right in the middle of learning recently. My favorite subject to tutor is organic chemistry. It is something I've been teaching for a long time, and it's a subject I've gotten to understand well. Other subjects I love to tutor include biology, chemistry, physics, and all math through calculus; my career path has required me to synthesize all these subjects rather well. ACT/SAT test prep is also something I enjoy teaching and is something I have experience with. I have started to offer MCAT tutoring, as it is one of the more rigorous exams I have had success with, and a skill I would love to pass on to other aspiring physicians.
