With a bachelor's degree in religion from Dartmouth College, I have developed a deep appreciation for the power of language and storytelling. My tutoring experience has equipped me to foster a supportive learning environment where students can flourish and express themselves authentically. I aim to guide them in seeing literature not merely as a medium but as a profound revelation of the human experience. By focusing on English Grammar and Syntax, as well as UK A Level Irish and Russian, I strive to cultivate not just academic skills but also a lifelong love for literature and learning.

Haley's English tutoring draws on years of academic and admissions writing rather than a traditional literature background, which makes her especially effective for students who need to sharpen argumentative essays, close-reading responses, or analytical paragraphs. She walks through how to build a thesis from evidence and revise for clarity — skills she honed across a biology master's program and a successful medical school application cycle. Rated 5.0 by students.
At Stanford, Joshua's Human Biology concentration required him to bridge scientific writing and ethical argumentation — papers that demanded clear prose, rigorous evidence, and the ability to make complex ideas accessible to non-specialist readers. That cross-disciplinary writing habit translates directly to teaching essay structure, grammar, and analytical reading, especially for students who think they're 'not English people.' He's known for pulling examples from whatever a student is already into — anime, biotech, gaming — to make grammar rules and thesis construction click.
Between tutoring literature, editing college essays, and scoring a 35 on the ACT, Mustafa knows how to teach the full range of English skills — from close-reading a passage for tone and argument to structuring a thesis-driven essay. He approaches English analytically, the same way he'd tackle a math proof, which clicks especially well for students who think of themselves as "math people."
Though math is her home base at Amherst College, Rosalyn also tutors college essays and essay editing — meaning she regularly switches between quantitative and verbal thinking in ways that sharpen both. That cross-training gives her a knack for teaching structured argumentation and clear sentence-level grammar, especially for students whose writing tends to ramble or lose its central thread. Rated 5.0 by students.
Jennessa's work mentoring children of newly-arrived immigrants in Boston means she understands how to break down English conventions — from sentence structure and thesis development to close reading — for learners at every level. Her International Relations studies at BC keep her immersed in analytical writing and argumentation daily, skills she brings directly into her tutoring. Rated 5.0 by students.
Engineering reports demand ruthless clarity — every sentence in a technical brief has to say exactly what it means, with no ambiguity in grammar or structure. Emma applies that same discipline from her aerospace engineering coursework at Georgia Tech to English tutoring, especially for students who need to tighten their writing mechanics and build stronger, more logical essay arguments. Rated 5.0 by students.
Reading comprehension and early writing skills are where Nina thrives — she started tutoring by teaching elementary students to read and has a knack for making books feel exciting rather than like homework. She draws on her own love of literature and writing to build confidence with everything from decoding unfamiliar words to crafting a student's first structured paragraph.
Reading comprehension and essay writing click faster when students see a purpose behind them — Darcey connects English skills to real analytical thinking, whether that's building a thesis from a text or structuring an argument that actually holds together. Her background spans literature, college essays, and editing, and she's rated 4.8 by past students.
I graduated with a BA in Politics and a BA in Anthropology from NYU in 2022. I also hold a MS in Biomedical Anthropology and a Graduate Certificate in Forensic Health and Nursing from SUNY Binghamton (graduated May 2024). I have worked in education, with a previous position with America Reads/America Counts teaching elementary students in the NYC public school system. My previous virtual tutoring experience was with Curious Cardinals, where I had tutored high school students with the following: forensic science, biology (anatomy, genetics), SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, ACT English and ACT Reading. I have experience working in forensic science policy at the Innocence Project, which is an organization focused on exonerating individuals who were wrongfully convicted of crime. In this role, I have written testimonials, case reports, and research articles on forensic identification methods and their legal, ethical, political, and privacy implications in casework. I have also worked in the forensic science sector as a Criminalist II at the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME). In this position, I assisted medical examiners (forensic pathologists) in the positive identification of deceased individuals throughout New York City. I also assisted in missing persons inquiries that were brought to the agency. Recently, I completed a research project in Vitoria de Santo Antao and Recife (both in the state of Pernambuco, in northeast Brazil) as a Fulbright Grantee. My research focused on osteology, forensic anthropology, and forensic genetics. My project involved metric analyses of bones combined with analyzing genetic information from DNA taken from bones. Currently, I am a doctoral student of Biological Sciences - Genetics at the University of Sao Paulo (USP). As a doctoral student, my dissertation project is expanding on the research I did with the Fulbright grant and is based on the central question/problem: What is the evolutionary relationship between skeletal morphology (primarily size), external pigmentation (i.e., skin, hair), and the presence of vitamin D deficiencies (which are indicated by the presence of skeletal lesions and decreased bone mineral density)? My favorite subjects in school were biology and anatomy, U.S. history, statistics, pre-algebra and algebra I, language and literature. I also partook in concert band and orchestra both in high school and in college. I am excited to share my skills and knowledge in these subjects with you, as well!
I have over 9 years of experience tutoring students preparing for teacher certification exams and hold degrees in English and Education, as well as a technical writing certification. I enjoy helping students strengthen their reading comprehension so they can break down test questions and avoid common multiple-choice mistakes. I also guide students in using exam specifications to study strategically and focus on what is most likely to appear on the test. My goal is to help every student feel confident, prepared, and calm on test day. I would love to help you achieve success.
Reading a poem, analyzing an argument, and drafting a clear paragraph all require the same underlying skill: paying close attention to how language creates meaning. Mimi's interdisciplinary training — art history at Dartmouth, education at Harvard — sharpened her ability to teach close reading and analytical writing as connected practices rather than separate assignments. She's particularly effective at showing students how to move from a vague reaction to a text toward a specific, evidence-backed interpretation.
Tom's PhD in American Studies meant years of wrestling with dense literary and historical texts, then turning that analysis into precise, compelling academic prose. He teaches English by zeroing in on the specific skill a student is missing — whether that's grammar mechanics, integrating quotations, or structuring a comparative essay — rather than running through a generic checklist. Rated 4.9 by students.
Having worked as a Writing Consultant during undergrad and earned a PhD in Spanish and Iberian Studies, Renee has spent years living inside the mechanics of language — grammar, syntax, argumentation — across two languages at once. That bilingual lens sharpens how she teaches English grammar and essay construction, since she can explain why a rule works, not just that it exists. Her SAT tutoring background also means she knows how to prep students for the reading and writing demands of timed assessments.
Between her Ancient and Medieval Studies minor and her love of reading and writing, Isabella brings genuine literary curiosity to English tutoring — she's the rare STEM student who also knows how to dissect a thesis statement or trace a motif through a novel. She approaches essays the way she approaches proofs: every claim needs evidence, every paragraph needs a clear purpose. Rated 5.0 by students.
Between crafting a Gilman Scholarship application, writing undergraduate research reports, and completing coursework across two very different majors, Ingrid has adapted her writing and reading skills to wildly different contexts. She teaches English by connecting reading comprehension strategies — like identifying an author's argument and tracking evidence — directly to stronger, more organized writing.
Most people don't expect an engineer to be strong in English, but Jai's 1590 SAT reflects serious reading comprehension and writing ability alongside his quantitative skills. He teaches essay structure and close reading with the same logical precision he applies to code — identifying a thesis, mapping an argument's evidence, and spotting where reasoning breaks down. Students preparing for AP English, college essays, or standardized-test passages get a tutor who treats writing as a craft with learnable mechanics.
From close reading and literary analysis to essay structure and thesis development, Joseph covers the full range of English skills students need at any level. His experience coaching college application essays sharpened his ability to show students how to build an argument from a text and express it with clarity and precision. Rated 4.9 by students.
Between his literature background, essay editing experience, and a 1500 SAT, Daniel tackles English from multiple angles — close reading, analytical writing, and the mechanics that tie them together. He's especially effective at teaching students how to build a thesis from a text and support it with specific evidence rather than vague summary.
A background in French literature and social sciences means Lauren reads closely and critically across genres, from poetry to argumentative essays. She teaches students to identify an author's rhetorical moves — tone shifts, structural choices, use of evidence — and then apply those same techniques in their own writing, building both analytical reading and composition skills at once.
Between scoring a 1440 SAT, tutoring college essays, and tackling MCAT verbal reasoning, Shayan has spent serious time dissecting how written English actually works — from close reading to argument construction. He teaches students to identify an author's central claim quickly and build their own written responses with clear, evidence-driven structure. Rated 5.0 by students.
Between his philosophy coursework, college essay coaching, and literature teaching, Justin brings a surprising depth to English for someone whose degrees are in math and physics. He's particularly strong at teaching students how to build an argument in an essay — structuring a thesis, selecting textual evidence, and revising for clarity — skills he honed writing extensively through his doctoral program at the University of Chicago.
College essays, literary analysis, and close reading all require the same core skill: making a clear argument backed by specific evidence. James sharpened this through years of writing lab reports and analytical papers at Harvard, and he now applies that structured thinking to help students craft sharper thesis statements and more persuasive prose. His 4.9 rating speaks to how well that analytical approach translates.
