I've scored near-perfect on both standardized tests, and I've been helping students understand how to improve their own scores ever since. I'm also capable of tutoring advanced Music Theory topics, as well as Spanish and Mandarin Chinese

Everybody learns, and everybody learns differently. The importance of pedagogy, the practice of teaching, cannot be overstated. It is not enough to share knowledge; knowledge must be communicated. This is the philosophy by which I have tutored and by which I currently tutor. With 4th grade students and with college-age students, with students in America and with students in Japan, I have helped new ideas and information take root and blossom to the satisfaction of student and tutor alike. I love those moments of recognition as someone internalizes knowledge, when an unfamiliar idea becomes familiar, and the creative ability such moments foster. My aim as a tutor is to understand how my students learn, so that they can do so most efficiently.

My job as a teacher is to collaborate with a student to overcome a challenge. Do you want to write a term paper? Great! Do you want to learn how to use a semi-colon? Let's do it! I'm on your side. With every lesson, I meet students where they are and together we tailor our lessons to fit their skills, interests, and needs. By approaching lessons collaboratively, we create an environment that emphasizes progress over perfection and uses their existing strengths to build new skills.

I am a graduate of Middlebury College. At Middlebury I double majored in Economics and History and minored in Spanish. Since graduating over four years ago, I have held two very different jobs! Directly after graduating, I served as a Youth Developement Peace Corps Volunteer in Peru. For two years I lived with a host family in the Andes Mountains and developed sustainable programs in preventative healthcare and education! After Peace Corps I helped launch a technology startup in New York City that partnered with taxi drivers. I absolutely love tutoring and sharing my passion for a variety of subjects including math, history, economics and Spanish! I have extensive experience tutoring all ages, including adults and my approach is collaborative, individualized, and fun. In my free time, you'll find me reading an American History book, running in Prospect Park or finding music with my friends!

After serving as an intelligence officer in the Air Force for seven years, I completed a doctoral program in American Literature at UNC-Chapel Hill. Since then, I have edited a literary journal, managed a research center, and published several peer-reviewed articles on American autobiography, fiction, and poetry. I live with my wife and three daughters in Durham, North Carolina.

I am passionate about helping students of all ages learn challenging content. I am a National Board Certified teacher with more than 20 years of state certified classroom teaching experience. I have expertise working with elementary students as well as supporting the professional growth of aspiring teachers. I am patient and encouraging and can help students progress to the next level of their learning journeys. I have earned degrees from some of the best schools in the country, including UCLA, Harvard, and MIT.

I have enjoyed teaching all my life. I have taught and coached swimming, Boy Scout skills, classes and small groups in church, college classes, and enrichment classes for home schoolers. I like tutoring one to one because of the flexibility it allows me to have in tailoring the tutoring to the individual needs of the student.

I like helping students. I am very patient. I have experience teaching Calculus classes at the University of Miami. I have done private tutoring for all levels of math up to Calculus, as well as Statistics, Business Math, and Math Finance. I have worked in the actuarial field. I have an undergraduate degree in mathematics from Michigan State University and a Master's degree in mathematics from the University of Miami. I worked for The Princeton Review as a tutor for the SAT. I did very well on both the SAT and ACT, and like teaching students how to do better on those. I like history, too, and always find it fun to tutor history.

I love helping people! Whether it's learning math, writing, reading, etc. or playing sports, I really enjoy seeing other succeed via my assistance. I try to relate to students in whatever they enjoy and in doing so, apply concepts to our like interests to work through difficult subjects as well as to help foster a good, professional relationship. I have tutored several students in both math and English in the past and they have enjoyed resounding success and continue to reach out for my assistance. I look forward to working with and meeting many students and parents while helping them succeed in any way I can. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy playing sports (golf, basketball, softball, volleyball), playing with my dog, and hanging out with my wife. In addition, I am a meteorologist and oceanographer following my graduation at Penn State University with a BS in Meteorology. Finally, I am presently a student at MIT pursuing a Master's degree in Physical Oceanography.
