I am a graduate of Edgewood College located in Madison Wisconsin. I received my Bachelor of Computer Science in January 2021. After graduation I further explored newer technologies at Nucamp to learn more about web development. I later on became a Java Instructor for another bootcamp called Camp Createability. This new opportunity allowed me to help students learn how to game design and use Java as a programming language. From there I built up successful projects on my own and collaborated with other developers. What makes me passionate about tutoring PHP, Java, HTML, CSS and JavaScript is being able to bestow my knowledge in a simplified way that students can understand. Being there to support students with valuable feedback and resources aids them in becoming programmers.

Hello! I'm a high school Algebra 2 teacher with experience teaching math ranging from middle school through college-level, including geometry, algebra, trigonometry, precalculus, and calculus. Although most of my tutoring and teaching experience is in math, I have undergraduate degrees in both mathematics and psychology (and briefly attend graduate school for psychology), so I would love to help out with either subject. I recently retired from a 37-year career in aerospace at Lockheed Martin. I was an engineer and have an Electrical Engineering Degree from Georgia Tech. Many years ago, when I was a student in high school and college my favorite subject was math. The main reason I enjoyed math so much was because my father was also an engineer (Graduate of the Coast Guard Academy) and very passionate about math, and he spent a lot of time with me solving math problems. He made math seem fun! During my career at Lockheed Martin, I always enjoyed mentoring and training new hires. Over the years, I've found that I enjoy teaching and I have a lot of patience explaining technical concepts. I have been complimented many times by my former colleagues about my excellent teaching skills. Now that I'm retired and have the time to teach, I am excited about finding creative ways to make math fun for my students. To me, solving math problems and solving puzzles are synonymous. In addition to math, I'm also interested in teaching basic computer programming concepts and the game of chess. Let's make math fun again!

I teach because I am passionate about my content and I love getting to share my excitement with others. I grew up in a family of engineers and medical professionals, and from a very young age my stuffed animals and baby brother were my first students. The more I studied and excelled in science and math, the more determined I became to pass on what I know. For undergrad, I attended Spring Arbor University, where I double-majored in chemistry and mathematics for secondary education. I also recently completed my master's degree in chemistry from Ohio University. I also have four years of experience teaching at a charter high school. I am very comfortable teaching and tutoring algebra II, trigonometry, pre-calculus, chemistry, and AP chemistry. Of them all, AP chemistry is my favorite class to teach, and I also have experience tutoring college-level general chemistry and organic chemistry.I believe that students learn best when they view schoolwork as a process to engage in, not as a checklist to complete. I support learning for mastery and I encourage students to embrace their mistakes by viewing them as opportunities for growth. I am always open to questions, but I usually answer with a question of my own. I work best one-on-one, helping students to identify what they already know and break down the problem-solving process into manageable steps. One of my favorite phrases is, "Let's find another way to think about this." Even the most rigid math problem can be approached from different angles, and I love the challenge of finding a new perspective that will "click" for a struggling student.

However, I changed my approach to school work and graduated Summa cum Laude from college. As a math tutor, my goal is for my students to not only learn, but to also understand that it is an exercise in reasoning. I want them to come to know that math can, in fact, be fun. As a reading tutor, I want to share practices and tips that enabled me to be successful and to instill a lifelong love of reading in my students. I received a Master of Education degree in August 2022.
