Economics Tutoring review by Nathan in Austin, TX
The student and I went through a lot of stuff about aggregate demand and supply. We focused mostly on how the 2 curves might shift and what that meant in the long run and the short run. He did well that and so he wanted to do some review of older topics. So we went over supply and demand briefly and different types of unemployment.

Topics: Monopolies -- what defines monopolies, in contrast to perfect competition, MR shape in relation to demand curve, deadweight loss that occurs in a market with monopolies, calculating profit-maximizing quantities and prices, price discrimination, what allows monopolies to exist, real world examples of monopolies, government regulation of monopolies, profit/loss/shutdown for monopolies Progress: The student and I covered a lot of material in a short time, but the concepts were probably the most difficult that he had encountered in the class. He seemed comfortable with the majority of the topics. Fortunately, in our sessions later this week, we will go over the practice test for the test he'll be taking early next month. This test will probably be much more representative of the concepts on his actual test, and we will spend much more time on the practice test material than we did for his previous test.

Economics Tutoring review by Neicea in Austin, TX
For our 2nd session on 6/26, the student and I reviewed material from last session and incorporated new concepts. We reviewed: the distinction between macro- and microeconomics, types of economic systems, types of economic resources, types of goods/services, using variables C, I, G, EX and IM, definition of GDP, real GDP per capita, GDP for the US, trade deficit and surplus, sources of economic growth (e.g., labor, capital, total factor productivity) and downturn, and definition of supply and demand. We also covered the following new concepts: demand curve, supply curve, market-clearing price, balance of payments (BOP), current account, financial account, trade/deficit nations and how that is reflected in the inverse relationship between current account and financial account, GDP and BOP as measurements of domestic and international transactions.
