I spent three years at the University of Illinois studying physics. When my Classical E and M professor walked in to class one day and asked who was willing to go twice a week to help him with an experiment at Fermilab and I was the only student who hadn't raised a hand, or two, I realized I was on the wrong track. What I loved about physics was the math. I moved to Nebraska to be closer to family and finished a B.S. in Math, and then spent 5 years in graduate school. I picked up an M.S. in Applied Math, taking many courses in ordinary and partial differential equations, along the way, but left ABD ( all but done) to pursue a business interest. After seven years in business I sold out my interest and started teaching math, courses ranging from arithmetic up through Calc III, for a community college, which I did for 15 years. I am now planning to pursue a masters in Actuarial Science.
I am confident both in my abilities as a mathematician and as a communicator and more importantly in every students ability to learn more math.
