Allison: Pennsylvania tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a music educator who graduated from Syracuse University on May 10th, 2015 with my B.M in Music Education and will be graduating from SUNY University at Buffalo in May of 2019 with my M. Ed. In Music Education. I have spent much of my work experience working with children and students in a variety ways. I believe that I am the type of educator that you are looking for, as my vision for students is built on support and musical growth.
I have completed all of my undergraduate coursework in May of 2015 and my certification tests, including the edTPA, and have received my initial certification in New York and my professional certification in Massachusetts. Along with the completion of my degree program, I believe that my experiences in the classroom as a teacher, student teacher, tutor, and observer, along with my outside work experience would make me fit as a tutor. With my experiences in music, caretaking, theater, and education I have always been a strong advocate for student support and growth.
Here is a summary of how my achievements and philosophy match with those of many districts:
Collaboration:
During my time at Syracuse University I had been involved in many different organizations. With my fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota, I have collaborated with my sisters on many service projects and putting on a recital, which I was leading. I have also collaborated with the members of the professional music organizations of the National Association for Music Education and the American Choral Director's Association in fundraisers, bringing in speakers, and planning for conferences. As a new teacher, I have collaborated with my colleagues to find the best methods of teaching a variety of learners with their input. I have also collaborated with my colleagues to stage several musical theater performances both in schools and in the community. During my time on Martha's Vineyard, I helped to collaborate with the music teachers across the island to bring ensembles from Syracuse University and SUNY Fredonia to perform in our annual All-Island Choral Festival.
Innovation:
In my experiences, I have consistently worked past just the music portion of my lessons to expand to all areas of teaching. My lessons and experiences have always been nontraditional and new for the students that I teach and plan for. Any time my schedule has changed, I have use it as an opportunity to be flexible and create new experiences for my students. This led to my creation of an Eighth Grade Cabaret and Project Share. When encountering students who have trouble with the performing aspect of music, I find other paths for them to take that still motivate a lifelong love of music and learning.
Excellence:
As a student I have demonstrated excellence through my honors on Dean's List and as recipient of the Spector/Warren Fellowship. I have had many leadership roles throughout my time at Syracuse University and have demonstrated excellence in those areas as well. In my first year of teaching I received Effective ratings in all areas during my classroom observations. I recognize my students' excellence and growth beyond grades through rewards systems and leadership positions where I have been able to as a teacher.
