It hurts my heart every time I see another student struggle with school work (especially math and chemistry), and that is why I wanted to become a tutor. I love helping other people, and I like the one on one sessions with students so I can make sure they are getting the help they need to succeed. I am a college student at the University of Texas at Arlington, I am pursuing a bachelors degree in Chemistry with a minor in Material Science Engineering. Although in credits I am a year ahead, which means I am technically a sophomore (and I am on track to graduate a year early), this is only my second semester in college.
My teaching method is to not answer the question for the student but to ask them questions and bring up fundamental ideas in the subject so the student is able to answer the homework problem on their own. With this teaching style the student will become an independent thinker and will be able to answer a multitude of different problems by being able to think them through. This will also build a students confidence in the subject because the student will eventually be able to answer the question themselves without having to refer to notes which will make them feel as smart as they are becoming!
