Rachel: Essex County tutor
Certified Tutor
Hi there! My name is Rachel and I am a writer, art educator, and community event planner. I recently graduated with a B.A. in African American Studies from Wesleyan University, with a concentration in Literature and Performance.
Writing and reading are more than hobbies for me. They are my passions, as well as lenses through which I learn more about myself and the world. Getting to teach other people the skills necessary to have enriching experiences with literature is an amazing opportunity to me. I do not take it for granted.
During my college years, I started off as an English tutor for middle school-aged children. Within my first year of college, I became one of four student coordinators for a local afterschool program. I was in charge of developing weekly curriculum for students aged 4-14, preparing different plans-of-action for students to tackle reading comprehension and writing skills and topics. While I was sad to graduate and pass leadership of the program over, I was overjoyed to have spent such a long time doing what I love in a community that I adored.
I am excited to be a part of the Varsity Tutors Team! Please view the subjects in which I have experience tutoring. I look forward to working with students and families of all backgrounds in order to help make the literary arts more than just "words on a page."
