Certified Tutor
Teaching and mentoring has always been an integral part of my life. Since middle school, I have taken on the role as a leader, volunteer teacher, peer guide and mentor. Giving back to future generations with all the knowledge and wisdom I've been blessed with has always and will continue to be a guiding principle in my life. Every aspect, from providing general social support to figuring out how to creatively explain a concept and which teaching style to use, provides me with a sense of self-fulfillment. Helping students finally make sense of something they initially couldn't wrap their minds around or inspiring them to keep climbing the ladder towards their dreams despite however many failures may try to slow them down shows me that I am making a difference in the lives of others.
Throughout the past 5+ years, I have held various positions in which I was responsible for teaching students different learning strategies and for helping them review course material. Most recently, as the TA for the Statistics courses 36-201 and 36-202, I was responsible for helping students apply concepts learned in class to real life problems. I also helped students plan out how they'd study for future exams. In the past, I've also held numerous tutoring positions at my high school as a member of the Math, Science and National Honors societies. I helped elementary through high school students in courses such as Algebra 1, Honors Precalculus and AP Biology. Finally, I was also one of the founding members of a standardized test help club. This club was specifically created and designed to help low income students learn the test taking strategies they need to master the SAT and ACT. All of this experience has definitely helped me improve my teaching and mentoring skills, and I hope to continue helping as many people as I can.
As a tutor with Varsity Tutors, I can benefit in many ways. By working with people of diverse backgrounds on a constant basis, I can further develop my interpersonal skills. Doing this for years to come, I will become clearer, more logical and creative in the way that I describe and explain things. At a more personal level, this job will help me gain a solid mastery of many different academic areas.
