What is your teaching philosophy?
Try all different methods. Students do not learn the same, and sometimes different tricks work better than others. You can't know what works until you try!
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Start off with introductions and then figure out where the student is regarding the subject so we are on the same page and know where to start.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Tell them about my struggles in different subjects to let them know everyone struggles. Also, keep switching it up so one method doesn't tire them out.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Break it down to the bare bones of it, step by step, until we find which specific step is causing the confusion.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Break it down sentence by sentence, and then start putting them together little by little to understand the full idea of the paragraph or page.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Apply it to something that interests them. For instance, if they love science-fiction, we could write French sentences involving sci-fi films and later watch them dubbed in French.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
It is necessary to use all the senses. Visual learning, auditory, sensory, and more. Each exercise or lesson has to involve one of these to help cement the material.
