Certified Tutor

Expanding on home exposure as a child, my Spanish career began with dedicated study of grammar and culture at an advanced high school. This passion led to 4th and then 1st place on the National Spanish Exam, becoming President of the Spanish club and receiving a 5 on the AP Spanish Language Exam.
At the university level, Spanish has become the focus of my knowledge, with "heritage" courses completed in advanced grammar, literature, culture, and history. I especially enjoy studying Spanish on an international scale, comparing and collecting accents and dialects.
I currently study to become a court interpreter/translator where I can help all types of Spanish-speakers with various linguistic needs.
As for teaching, I have had the privilege to tutor both English and Spanish at a range of levels. Learning a language is giving yourself a new skill and opening the door to any number of possible human interactions. This is my favorite part of helping individuals with their Spanish studies--helping develop a specific program to help students succeed and have fun out in the real world.
Languages are all about active learning, so let's find out what works for you and get communicating!

What is your teaching philosophy?

No two students are the same. This means there is no such thing as the "right" or "wrong" way to go about imparting knowledge. The best course of action for success with a student is to find out what excites him or her and what makes him or her learn with the most zeal. Then, lessons and material should be customized to maximize this enthusiasm while learning something new. Also, teaching is a two-way street. We are always learning, and every student is a new method or approach to discover for tutors.
